Guest guest
Hi , The USDA RDA for *healthy* girls and boys ages 4 - 8 yrs. is 130 mg. There aren't any USDA RDA guidelines for infants, children, and adults who have chronic health issues, diseases, or recovering from illness or surgeries. However, Krispin, a California nutritionist, recommends 2.4 - 4.5 mg. per pound of ideal body weight daily depending upon your health. If you have health issues she suggests going with the higher number. In the US, the average weight of a 4 - 6 yr. child is 44 lbs. 44 lbs. x 2.4 mg. = 105.6 mg. 44 lbs. x 4.5 mg. = 198 mg. I'd be comfortable giving 150 mg. magnesium daily, which is 1 1/2 Solgar tablets. This seems like a good number especially if your daughter is currently taking any magnesium-depleting meds. Also consider... 1) Does your daughter take a multivitamin/mineral tablet every day? If so, look on the label to see how much magnesium is in her multi. (ADEKs isn't a multi, and it doesn't contain magnesium.) 2) If your daughter takes a multi, then include that amount of magnesium along with the Solgar in her daily allotment. I hope this helps. Guest guest
Thanks Kim. She's not currently on a multi, just ADEK's and extra K. Re: Magnesium ? Many people mistakenly believe that only vitamins A, D, E, and K are in ADEKs vitamins, but this isn't so.
