Guest guest
Try making your own veggie jars. When Tyler was that age, I made all of his baby food from scratch. I went to the grocery store and bought sweet potatoes, broccoli, asparagus, butternut squash, green beans...any veggie I saw. I took it home and boiled it until it was soft (not mushy just soft) then I put it in a food processor and then stored them in the Rubbermaid containers...you know, the small ones that you would put in a lunch box, they are about the same size as a baby food jar. I would make up many different kinds on Sunday (it didn't take that long) and it would last him all week. I would put the containers in the freezer and then set them in the fridge to thaw as we used them. If you don't want to go out and buy a whole bunch of Rubbermaid containers, you can put the puree in ice cube trays and make cubes, then take a cube or two out, put it in a dish and let it thaw. Tyler LOVED his veggies, and the funny thing is, I always heard to start them on veggies first because the fruit has natural sugar in them and the child would prefer the fruit over the veggies, but I had a hard time getting Tyler to eat his fruit. From the time he was diagnosed (at 3 weeks old) I always read that a healthy diet is essential for cfer's, so I figured how more healthy could you get by providing FRESH foods to him? I did not mind the little bit of work it took to cook it all up, actually I really enjoyed it. Dawn mom to Tyler 5 w CF
Guest guest
Try mixing all veggies w/sweetpotatoes or but the juice that has carrot and fruit and yes they have sweet potatoe juice it is mixed with fruit too .I myself have had 8 orange babies as they all hated green veggies .The only thing that happens is their skin turns orangish color .You can always mix green veggies in by using veggie noodles (I used to use table food )and make my own baby food that way they ate what we did.You can make chili, lazagna, even veggie broth for soup.Good Luck ! Guest guest
This may sound weird but it has worked for me with food Zach does not like. I have him take one bite and let him reject it. Then I feed him foods he likes. I keep offering the offensive food occasionally at different meals for a few months, but never make him it. If he refuses we move on. After a while he will eat the food he hated and even say it is " Num Num " . We have learned that Zach dislikes the unfamiliar more than anything. With the exception of peas which he will gag on, this method has worked well. Sara- mommy to Zach 18 months
Guest guest
This is funny, because it brought back a memory for me. I remember when Steph went from the first foods to the junior foods that were more chunky. She did the gag thing. The face she made was so hilarious. But we kept trying this and eventually it was ok. Thank you in advance. > > Debbie - mom of is almost 6 months already wcf One of the dieticians at the conference I just went to said that it takes children at least five tries to decide whether or not they like a new food taste/texture. We were advised to try the new food once daily every few days, and not to get cranky if the children spit it out several times. (For bigger children, there was the suggestion letting them spit it out into a napkin and putting it straight in the bin.) For my girls, I just gave up on store bought baby food and made my own. I mean, I wouldn't eat that stuff - it tastes gross! I didn't have the heart to make them eat it........ So, there was lots of homemade pumpkin soup, and lots of pureed potato with extra butter. Quite rapidly it turned into pureed whatever we were eating. Hope this helps. - Mum to Cate 10yrs wocf and Sian 6yrs wcf, asthma, GERD and ADD?
