Guest guest
WELCOME Tony, You will learn much from this group & others here on the internet. Read.search....YOU WILL learn. Great to have you on the list LOVE & HUGS< grandmomBEV Hey Im new and have a LOT to ask.. First I would like to say that my cousin who is 11 has been diagnosed with CF and they have known that she has had it since she was a baby. I was wondering if there is anything new or cures or anything to make their lifespan longer? Also, my cousin started puberty early, at age 11. Could this be a side effect of having CF? Oh and do you think there would be a cure anytime in the next 5-10 years? Please help me out as I need all I can get with this topic. Thank you so much and I pray for you all every night that a miracle will happen. Guest guest
Welcome to the list, it is great to see a cousin who cares so much. Do you know what sort of treatments she is on? The newest things that have come out in the past several years include better pancreatic enzymes, pulmozyme which is inhaled to break up and thin the thick CF mucus, the Thairapy Vest which has made thousands of people with CF and their caregivers an easier life, Tobi which is an inhaled antibiotic which takes the antibiotic straight to the lungs where the infection is, and Zithromax which is an antibiotic with anti-inflammatory properties and helps cut down the inflammation in the lungs. There are other new treatments on the horizon. Yes I do feel we will have a cure or control MAYBE within the next 10 yrs. But even if it doesn't come, doing all the treatments available now will keep our young CF patients hopefully healthy enough to take advantage of the cure when (and IF) it does come. Thanks for caring and the prayers. Please let me know if this has helped and if you can find out what treatments your cousin is on. Oh about the puberty, by coincidence my daughter also got her period at age 11, but actually I have heard puberty is commonly delayed. So I don't think it is a side effect of having cf. It could be a good sign though that her body was well nourished enough for her to start puberty. its great to have you with us. love, mom of age 19 wcf and Nick age 21 nocf
Guest guest
Tony, I hope your young cousin is doing well. I am 39 with CF and my sister is 49. There are always new treatments coming out and there is much hope for more in near future. No cure yet, but one never knows. joanne > First I would like to say that my cousin who is 11 has been > diagnosed with CF and they have known that she has had it since she > was a baby.
