Guest guest
Hi all, today we had an appointment with orthotist at the University of Michigan. They did both manual measurements and 3D scan, but we won't get scan results till our next visit in 2 weeks for fitting. We were told that the assymetry is 17 mm, which he said is pretty significant, I was hoping that Aman would have it ~12-13 mm . We would be fitted with a helmet from Danmar; as I understood this helmet was originally designed by an UofM orthotist (same person who saw us today), but then given over to Danmar. I am little nervous since it is not an active helmet as the DOC band, although (lina.gabriev) mentioned that they had excelent results with that helmet. I hope the same will be true for us. The other thing the orthotist mentioned is that Aman has a mild left torticollis, which could be treated by stretching exercises. I am kind of dissapointed with our ped for not diagnosing us and advising on stretching. Is it actually OK to change a doctor who gave us referal right now or better to wait till we get the helmet? Aman will be 5 month when we get the helmet. Has anybody graduated with Danmar helmet? Just want to hear how was the correction. I will take some pictures with stockings on and post them. I took some without, but because he has so much hair it is not that obvious. ups, such a long email... Zhyldyz Aman is 4.5 month old
Guest guest
I am also a little disappointed in my doctor. We asked her a couple of times about the shape of Sammy's head and finally she agreed (at 3 months) that it was a problem. She is the one who told us about helmets and bands. We never knew about them. I guess he's still pretty young, so getting started now is ok, but I wish we would have been talking about this 2 months ago. > > > From: mezhyldyz <mezhyldyz@...> > Subject: first appointment with orthotis > Plagiocephaly > Date: Thursday, February 26, 2009, 4:14 PM > > > > > Hi all, > today we had an appointment with orthotist at the University of > Michigan. Guest guest
I certainly understand the frustration. I kept bringing things to my pediatricians attention and kept getting the brush off and was told not to worry about it and that it was no big deal. Finally at her six month check up the doctor said I should have her checked out by a specialist and she and her staff have been so accomodating since. My daughter just had a CT scan and confirmed that she has a fused suture. It frustrating when we are telling out doctors that something is wrong and they don't seem to hear you. > > > > > > From: mezhyldyz <mezhyldyz@> > > Subject: first appointment with orthotis > > Plagiocephaly > > Date: Thursday, February 26, 2009, 4:14 PM > > > > > > > > > > Hi all, > > today we had an appointment with orthotist at the University of > > Michigan. Guest guest
Hi all, thanks a lot for your input. Our helmet is being made and we decided to give a go to a Danmar hemlet. But as some of you suggested we will take pictures regularly to monitor the progress. I hope it would work and we wouldn't need a backup starband plan.. It is good to know that theres is a starband office in Livonia. I will keep sending updates.
