Allergic Foods: When Switching from GF/CF to SCD

Thank you for the yogurt/casein insight and clarification. I will begin

it soon as I gather the materials.

**

Food allergy Question: I have read the SCD several times and cannot find

anything about " food allergy testing " I have read somewhere that once the

body is compromised that the food sensitivity list grows as the gut

deteriorates... I can testify to that with my son. However, now that I

would like to be strictly SCD, how to respond to the traditional medical

allergy test which reads Allergic to: egg whites, tomatoes,

pineapples.... and more.

Do I put those food back in the diet and go strict SCD;

Do I keep those food out of the SCD (more strict than SCD);

How has this been handled for successful families with similar

" allergies " ??

Looking for clarification and guidance to do the right thing AND heal!

Sharon,

I think it depends if you are talking IgE (immediate, hives/swelling

reactions) or IgG (delayed food intolerances).

My son just kept getting more and more IgG reactions on his tests so

we were GFCFSFEFCrnFNutFRiceFYeastFPotatoFSugarF etc till he was

eating very few foods and only getting worse. Our DAN told me it

just indicated a leaky gut and everything he ate would show up on

there. On her advice, we put all the foods (SCD legal) back in one

by one and observed what happened, keeping a good journal record.

He has been happily eating eggs and bananas - his highest IgG

reactions on every test since age 2 with no reaction now for a month

and a half. In fact, his skin has never been clearer and his

wheezing is totally gone. He has gained 3 lbs and 1 inch when we

last checked. But, pecans, which just showed up low level IgG on

his last test for the first time, gave him a major reaction of red

cheeks, eczema flare, wheezing, etc. so they are out for now. The

IgG test also showed he couldn't have pumpkin, squashes, almonds,

cashews, pineapple, oranges, strawberries plus many more that he is

eating fine now on SCD- the fruit is cooked though at this point

still.

He has high IgE reactions to peanut, so I do not forsee any time in

the future trying that with him. He can live without peanut butter

just fine.

Some people still avoid their IgG reactions though and their

children do great too. I think it's whatever you see is best for

your child. But, so far, it has been very good to add back in so

many foods for Cody- he feels his new diet is a special treat since

he can have eggs and bananas now and his sister still can't!

Janet, mom to Cody- SCD since 4-17-06- multi food allergies, leaky

gut, dairy and soy free 4 yrs, gluten free plus more 2+ years, MB12

shots 1 1/2 yrs, high metals, etc.

I found this while browsing through the offical web site for BTVC:

www.breakingtheviciouscycle.info/knowledge_base/kb/allergies.htm

Elaine writes:

Some of the allergy testing is far from accurate. However, if you

have

ever had an anaphylactic reaction to a nut or another food, stay

away for it for ever and ever.

There are two schools of thought about gut problems: (1) leaky gut

which suggests that intact proteins from things like wheat and milk

are getting into the bloodstream and provoking an allergic reaction

(2) our school of thought that overgrowth of bacteria can cause

alterations in the gut mucosa which might cause large molecules to

get through into the bloodstream. However, if we get rid of

bacterial overgrowth, the gut will heal and allergies in time will

disappear if, in fact they are caused by the damage to the

intestinal mucosa. There are a few other theories which I will not

discuss now but they, too, involve the immune system but in other

ways aside from inducing an allergic reaction.

Most people such as you find that introducing the introductory diet

for a few days and then gradually gaining confidence that certain

foods should be added, find that they are getting better eating the

very foods to which they were supposed to be allergic.

Dear Sharon, This is what we did. But everyone has an opinion.

This is what worked for us. We saved our money for the food intolerance testing

and allergy testing. It was obvious to us that we where getting " allergic,

sensitive or intolerant " to " food " lol! We had the skin test before diagnosed

for celiac...it came back surprisingly negative. Elaine said that many of these

allergies are not typical. This is probably why our tests where negative.

Including the IgE, IgG, and IgA gluten tests for celiac. Yet Gold standard

biopsy showed celiac disease. Again, Elaine knew why the gluten free diet does

not work...but our doctors did not. We where sent home to continue suffering

with the prescription of gluten free diet. Allergies grew and grew, until we

went SCd.

Elaine suggested that if it doesn't cause anaphylaxis or severe other

reactions...to eat it. We had to do it this way, or we would have not had

enough to eat a balanced diet. Like most here, we came malnourished, could not

afford to cut any more out. We rotate everything to avoid build up....as our

intestines have healed most ill reaction to food sensitivity has vanished. We

started to see this kind of improvement within the first month, we are now 4

month out and continue healing.

Contact me off serve if you want to hear more.

Hope this gives hope, Antoinette and family 2/06/celiac/adhd, add, autism and

more
