Janice said: Am I dreaming that this diet is going to help my kids? I am doing

this diet to try to

keep yeast at bay and " heal the gut " as they both still have malabsorption

issues. Will this diet heal their leaky guts if they

don't present with obvious GI issues like diarrhea or constipation?

Dear Janice, I personally have been where you are in a strange yet different

way. If I could take back time I wish we had not experimented with other ways

of eating. Especially for our daughter KIKI, now 2 years old. Retrospect it

was truly a waste of time, and it is our hope permanent brain damage thanks to

continuing " starving her brain " has not been a result of my lack of wanting to

implement 100% adherence to SCD until four months ago. Within short period

doing SCD by the book, she started to show gains that she never had with other

ways of eating. I truly hope that you reconsider doing it by the BTVC book.

This is the only way you will know for certain that SCD is a Blessing or a true

waste of time for you guys. Most DAN! and research say that ASD kids have

damaged gut. EVEN Celiac Sprue Association says that their can be " silent

celiacs " . My husband is/was one! Never an out right Celiac Symptom, yet he had

a Positive EGD and biopsy! NO JOKE! So beware of your rationale that they don't

have GI issues. SCD is not fun, but worth it as far as I am concern.

Hope this helps, Antoinette and (celiac/add/asd) parents to Kiki-2

celiac/asd celiac/adhd and Bubbles- hyperekplexia All SCD 2/06

Janice, in a few words, give it a couple of months. Keep a journal of their

behaviors and see if there are any positive gains. At the very least SCD is

very healthy. I know it is hard to cook and hard to find things they will

eat. I am there! If they aren't having reactions (mushy stools, diarrhea,

gas, bloating, discolored stools, undigested food in stools, etc), then I

don't see any reason why not to feed them the nut flours, raw fruits, etc.

Good luck!
