Dory,

I also have Tricare and am in the middle of getting approval. I know that

with co-morbidities you have a greater chance. Have you had a fasting blood

sugar? Have you any joint pain, back pain, blurred vision?? Anything that

might get their attention...

Keep me informed,

Diane

Dory, The best thing I can say do is switch over to Tricare Standard for a

year and have your surgery. I had Tricare Standard and they gave me no

trouble at all. In fact me and my daughter were approved in a couple of days.

If you have any questions feel free to contact me. Liz

Dory - is there anyway you could gain the weight before going in to be

weighed? You could even buy some of that weight gain stuff they have a the

health food stores (tell them it's for someone else *lol*). Salty things

really retain water - It is so silly for you to have to gain weight in order

to get the surgery. I weigh 250 and am 5'7 " tall, my BMI is 39 and i have

no other problems - the surgeons assistant is saying that I am just right

for the surgery and shouldn't have complications - from the surgery - i am

having VBG (not a real popular thing) but they use a " new " procedure and the

operation has been more successful in the last 3-5 years. With the VBG you

can gain the weight back if you don't follow the rules -

anyway...........good luck to you!

A VBG?

A life time of forceful vomiting and 30% or greater failure rate and little

chance for successful revision.

If you don't know much about the MGB...hop on Dr. Rutledges web site and read

read read!! And stick around this group..you will learn a lot. I believe

and I think everyone else will agree on this list that it seems to be the

best weight loss procedure out there. Don't commit to ANY surgery without

fully doing your homework...it takes ALOT of hours (I have been on here 4 1/2

months and spend at least 3 hours a day every day on this) but worth it. You

don't want to end up with a bad procedure. I am still pre-op but there is no

doubt in my mind this is a great life saving procedure.

Dory, Play their game. Get some ankle weights, put tiny steel balls

or anything heavy in your pockets, and weigh in at the required

weight. Insurance companies are so ignorant and uncooperative

sometimes. Just outsmart them!

Good luck, Lynda mgb 12-16-99 336/240/175

Hi Jan, I used to read the list at adoctorinyourhouse.com at the

Carni Support group, and there is a very active member there

that had a VGB a year ago, her name is Jerry she can help you. Or you

can email me for her email address. Although we like to hear from all

WLS patients, the majority of the people on this list have done the

research and choosen the MGB with wonderful Dr. Rutledge, so it would

be harder if not impossible for us to recommend the VGB. The best way

to find out about different surgerys is to ask people that have had

it. There is also a list here on egroups called OSSG main list that

has people on it that has had many different types of weight loss

surgery. You are welcome to post here but I think you will have your

questions answered better by those who have had the surgery you want.

My email address is sumlinsr @ charter.net (remove the spaces).

Kind regards

Marjory
