Guest guest
Vicki, In regard to birth control.... male contraceptives or Abstinence. That is it. In clinic Dr. R. said not to count on BC to work for up to 2 years after the surgery. With Love, Lara M. Akin (BMI 63) Trying to get my weight down to do the dance with Dr. Rutledge. Guest guest
Hello, In regard to rejection..there are several areas that Dr. R will reject for. First is if you have had previous weight loss surgery, second I have read that certain types of illnesses exclude you as well. I want to comment on the weight issue. Dr. Rutledge never ever told me no I will not do your surgery. When I saw him in clinic I weighed 423 pounds. His words to me were " Go home and fight for your life like you have never fought before. This will be the last diet you will EVER have to be on so do your best. Then if you get to the point where you just cannot do it anymore or you plateau call me and I will not turn you away. " He went further and said " The less you weigh per-operatively the less chances of complications. " So please do not think because you do not fit into the weight category that you are rejected, you have the option to go with another doctor or you can lose the weight, like I am trying. I have lost 26 pounds and believe me they are not coming off easy. But my logic is this. I would rather lose the weight then to suffer any extra complications. I would rather live then to die not trying. With Love, Lara M. Akin (BMI 63) Trying to get my weight down to do the dance with Dr. Rutledge. Guest guest
WOW Lara, thanks, I am really getting into a slump here. I just found out about all this 3 weeks ago. I went and saw my Dr. Immediately. She is all for the surgery but is a part of my HMO who denied, her hands are tied. So in my packet I had , My letter, My families Letter, My 10 contacts and My picture. My Medical records come from out of town, I called and immediately had then sent. My packet seemed easy, but seems like it is missing alot. I had no choice. I thought I saw that Dr. R. would in some cases do the History and Physical in his office, thus they were not in may packet, the past medical records I already spoke of. Now I got on the scale , the first time in a long time and it says 382. But its not all in my stomach ( famous last words). I sent in asking for a clinic appointment. I dont know, everthing just seems very discombobulated ( Boy now theres a word). I am praying tohear something every minute. It is overtaking my life, I can't sleep, work, do anything, I have to stare at my computer all day to see if I get a message. Thanks for your kind words, everything helps. Guest guest
Lara: Thanks for that wonderful post. It's nice to hear about the things that are from personal encounters, not just in the manual. Twenty-six pounds is quite an accomplishment, sounds as if you are doing more than your 'personal best!' Continued good luck, Judith in Seattle, WA Re: Digest Number 1885 > Hello, > In regard to rejection..there are several areas that Dr. R will reject for. > First is if you have had previous weight loss surgery, second I have read > that certain types of illnesses exclude you as well. Guest guest
Dear Lara, I applaud you !! *clapping* ~smile~ You should be very proud of yourself. This fight with my weight has been the hardest thing I've ever had to deal with, I am so impressed with your attitude and I think you will inspire many who have to lose weight to have this surgery. >From: LaraAkin033100@... >Reply-To: MiniGastricBypass (AT) egroups (DOT) com >To: MiniGastricBypass (AT) egroups (DOT) com >Subject: Re: Digest Number 1885 >Date: Thu, 10 Aug 2000 10:19:56 EDT > >Hello, >In regard to rejection..there are several areas that Dr. R will reject for. >First is if you have had previous weight loss surgery, second I have read >that certain types of illnesses exclude you as well. Guest guest
Lara.. Hi.....My name is Joni and I weigh around 380....I'm trying to get down closer to 350 so I don't have to possibly delay having the surgery if I get accepted. How are you losing it? I've been trying to stay away from carbohydrates (which isn't easy....I'm a carb-junkie). But I find that if I can have at least some rice at least once a week...I'm fine. My appointment with Dr. Rutledge is on August 29th....so hopefully I can have 19 more days to lose enough weight. I have everything else in order as far as my packet is concerned. I wish you luck in losing yours. Guest guest
Hi Joni, I will look forward to meeting you at clinic on the 29th. I am having surgery the next morning. Does anyone know if having your staples out at the next clinic and still making a flight out by 1:00 is possible? Thanks Friends and looking forward to meeting some in person at the clinic.
