Guest guest
Hi, We have been doing the legal/Illegal list with my son since July 4th!! He was eating alot of fruit which I put on hold for a bit longer, now he's eating about 5 bananas a day, some chicken mixed with very very well cooked parsley and cilantro and beef patties and some Monster cookeis. That's his diet, he starts crying right qround 8 in the eve and keep crying and pinchin for about 2-3 hours. He's got bad gas today and his breath has a starnge odor almost metallic about couple of days aftet we started the diet. He has one bowel movement every day or every other day and he burps alot starting in the afternoon specially after he eats. He can be in a good mood and then he get cranky out of a sudden. I've had to cancel all therapies beacuse all he does is cry. Any suggestions. Does this sound like a " die off " . what is his breath odor for? Thank you Sara
Guest guest
You could definitely be seeing die-off. He's only been on the diet for nine days. Bad breath can be part of this.... as the body has to process a lot of toxins. A couple of comments.... Five bananas a day seems like a LOT! You said he " was eating a lot of fruit " and NOW he's eating five bananas a day?? He's not eating any vegetables at all? The Monster Cookies have raisins, walnut pieces and coconut..... ALL of these are way too difficult to digest for someone brand new to SCD. Have you looked at the tips on Pecanbread.com, for " Picky Eaters " ... under " Overcoming Difficulties " ? I think you've got to find a way to get some vegetables in.... perhaps check out some of the " Sneaky Pancakes " or chicken cupcakes from the recipe section. Patti Help anyone!!!! Guest guest
Thank you Pattie, I will try more vegtables, he just seems so hungry all the time. Do you have any suggestions on legal enzymes? Sara
Guest guest
Take a look over the intro diet, take a group of easy to digest foods, and add them one by one slowly into the diet. Enzymes can help with this. Parsley and cilantro can be rather hard to digest when leaky gut is really bad like this. It sounds a mixture of hypoglycemia, leaky gut with bacterial infection, poor renal and lymph system function. You need to balance his diet a bit, add in bone marrow broths, more quality meat and fresh vegetables. Bananas sound suspicious, start changing those out for something else. The basis of the diet is not just eating legal or illegal foods, but eating what the body can digest. Burping can be stomach gas displaced by food, sounds like lots of fermentation in the digestive tract, both upper and lower. Sounds more like fermentation than die off, and as long as foods are this unbalanced, it can only get worse. Sudden mood changes are a reflection of the state of the gut, of absorption of foods. Sounds like he isn't digesting fats very well, which goes along with carbohydrate malabsorption. Enzymes and fish oil. Infections, including yeast infections can be responsible for sudden mood changes, as well as blood sugar changes. All these often go hand in hand. Drink plain water, gradually get off the juice habit, by slowly diluting juice with water until all he is drinking is water. Don't let him watch you pour the juice, if you do it gradually enough, his tastebuds will adapt without him realizing. Watered down juice is legal on SCD, but in case of massive bacterial and yeast infection, it only serves to directly feed these organisms. Plain, filtered, unflouridated water instead.
