I couldn't be happier for you. I know that your Thanksgiving meal was delicious. Your decision about surgery will come to you when you are ready to deal with it. You are very smart and very wise about your body so I know that you will take charge and figure everything out pertaining to surgery. Enjoy the lesser pain days. You deserve them. Good luck to you. Guest guest
Hi y'all, It's been a while since I've given you a personal update on my progress since my hospitalization (on my 52nd birthday, no less) at St. ph's-Candler in Savannah with an acute chronic pancreatitis attack with enlaraged pseudocysts. I'm back on all regular foods, thankfully in time for me to prepare an elaborate and very well received Thanksgiving feast for 14. No one but immediate family knew that they were eating a pancreatitis/diabetes friendly menu!!! It was recieved with so much complimentary praise that I was very flattered, and enfused with a warm glow of thankfulness for the good food, wonderful companionship and several days of minimal pain. In retrospect, it was the best holiday celebration I've had so far, and I'm immensely grateful for my blessings. Now the house is quiet, everyone's gone back to Oklahoma and ton or flying the skies of the northeast corridor. I have been blessed with over a week's worth of minimal pain days and I'm so glad that I've finally climbed out of that attack and can regain some degree of normality!!! Whoopee!! I'm still wearing the duragesic patch, and realize that's a constant, but now I've been getting by with only needing breakthrough meds a couple times a day, and that is just fine with me. Tomorrow morning I have a follow up ultrasound scheduled to see how the pseudocysts are doing. I'd judge that by the decrease in pain, that they have finally stopped growing and are starting to mature. It will be interesting to see what size they are this time. And now I don't know whether to pursue the quest for a pancreatic surgeon to review them and see if drainage can be performed, or whether to just let things ride and see how they do resolving on their own. All the specialists say that there's a positive chance of them going down, and then just filling back up again, causing another hospitalization. But I just don't know if I want the risk, hassle and inconvenience of surgery, yet, and I need to do a lot of serious thinking about this. My GI has already told me that he will support my decision whatever it is, and will do whatever he can to make arrangements for a pancreatic surgeon consult. I wish I could reach a decision about this, but I still haven't been able to. So that's how life's going for me right now. I'll keep you updated as things go along. Guest guest
Heidi, I''m so glad that your pain has diminished enough to only need breakthrough meds and that you are able to eat and had a great Thanksgiving. You'll be in my prayers that the cysts are maturing and that you'll soon be able to drain them or remove them or whatever to make life easier for you. I hope your ultrasound went well. I'm afraid I am behind in my posts right now. I'll catch up, eventually. Kimber -- Kimber Vallejo, CA hominid2@...
