Guest guest
Lately I have been having trouble doing my daughters CPT. She is 11 months old and getting her to be still is nearly impossible. Guest guest
my boy is 10 months old, I know what you mean. I dont stress about it, I always do it after breakfast and he watches a video, baby mozart. I only do what he handles otherwise it stresses him out, this is usually about 10-12 mins. Its better than nothing. I dont concentrate on only one area for so many minutes like we were taught, I just do what is able to be done, one minute here, 2 minutes there. For his back physio I ay on the floor and he sits on my tummy and I pat him from behind while he watches video. For laying on his back I hold one arm and pat under that side while he p[lays with a toy eating it with the other hand. If he has enough of one I just change, go with the flow and dont make it a stressful situation. mum to Liam wcf CPT question > Lately I have been having trouble doing my daughters CPT. Guest guest
Hi Katy, Zach was diagnosed at 13 months and CPT was a huge struggle at first. I bought a doll that was about his size and dressed it in his clothes. As I was doing his CPT, my husband would do CPT on the doll. After a week or so, Zach seemed much more calm during his sessions and now will fall asleep during them. We also watch Baby Mozart still for his CPT. Hope this helps! Guest guest
Will Austin " help " with CPT? My 3 year old will fetch toys and help entertain her sister during, plus we use videos too. Leila struggles mightily also, and we still have days where she yells through the entire process, but having her sister really helps. I agree with one of the earlier posts about this, the yelling/crying only helps to clear the lungs. I hate it that she cries through it, but she also gets 30 minutes a day like it or not. I will cheer the day we are big enough to get a vest! Hang in there 'cause it's got to get easier with time (here's hoping). Guest guest
Keeley, Thank for the encouragement. As sad as this may sound, I haven't really thought of asking him to help me. I guess it wouldn't hurt to try huh? You're right though, it has to get easier!!! How old was Leila when she was diagnosed? By the way, how does Hadley react to Leila getting so much attention? Does Hadley understand that Leila has something wrong with her? I know when Piper was in the hospital, Austin had to stay with my parents cause she was in the hospital for a month, but when she was there he knew that she was sick. Now its like since she doesn't have iv's and tubes everywhere that she is fine and that she shouldn't get as much attention as she does. Just frustrating at times!!! Thanks again for the encouragement!! Katy mom to Austin almost 4 w/o CF & Piper 11 months w/CF mom2leila wrote: Will Austin " help " with CPT? Guest guest
What a wonderful caring love this wee sister is showing. She already understands (thru you parents ) that is a help for sister. How great that is............YES,, the crying does help clear the lungs mightily:) Remember the wives tales ----that is why the swat the newborn to get them to let out that first cry-----to make sure their lungs are developed??????????? that wasn't to far from the truth:) Anyway, it most likely wont last long ..She will start to be interested in all the things sister & you all are providing for her entertainment too. Bless you & sure send lots of helpful wishes your way. LOVE & HUGS, grandmomBEV Re: CPT question Will Austin " help " with CPT? Guest guest
This question wasn't posed to me, BUT, I am a grandmom of 10 (helped deliver each one too) & had 5 children of my own & taught school 20+ years. ......In my opinion, you really will have both kiddo's benefit from their helping regardless of how minor that event is. whether its hand sibling or yourself this .take this , get that , talk to sibling, sing to them...watch a movie.cartoon , with them .Whatever.... Then reward in a subtle way, by telling all who are around to at other times too, each chance you get to reinforce the pride --especially how big an assistant he/she is...they take pride in being the older one....or big sister/brother... it also would be that a stop in the dollar store (whatever) once in a while for a special " big brother treat " would be sooooo nice . telling others in his earshot , what a great help in caring for his sister he is. Praise works wonders. I do know that sometimes it is " in the way " but it is always great to see that caring .It grows with them. I wouldn't make my older ones " babysit " .....But they did hand them back the toys thrown out of the playpen (yes, had those WAY BACK then.......) hand me new diaper, get the sweater , etc , etc, ..........whatever......I am sure you already do some of this BUT..... its value for life , can not be expressed enough . My kids at their age now......42- to almost 50----still would rather vacation, holidays, help each other with their projects (home repair, decorating , etc.) whatever with each other. Every thing of importance is called & told to each other first.......Soooo, it is carried over and the cousin's do the same. Bless you & may they always be close. You are doing a great job!! Guest guest
Hi Katy, My daughter was diagnosed at 9 & 1/2 months and as I recall almost every time we had to do PT before she was about 2, she screamed like we were killing her. I was sure someone would call the police on us for abusing her! Heaven only knows what our next door neighbor thought (She didn't know about the CF then) The thing that helped me was TV. She would be distracted eventually by one of her shows. Even though she screamed through it, she got the PT she was prescribed. (all the way up until May of this year when she got her vest) We also had a silly song that we made up to sing to her. Sometimes singing her favorite songs helped too. really anything that calmed her down. I won't say that once in a long while I didn't do slightly less time here or there because she was so agitated but we do not skip PT ever. I figured if she got used to skipping it because of a tantrum, she would have tantrums more often. We were also told by one of the physical therapists at the hospital that she could occasionally use one of those big balls with the handle that you hop around on for PT. They just have to hop for about as long as you normally do PT. You know that got one of those the next Christmas. I know that this is tough but she'll get to a point where she accepts it. I though we would never get to that point when we little but she did. Good luck. Guest guest
, Thank you!! I'm not sure what my neighbors think. I'm sure they have heard her screaming, but luckily the police haven't shown up yet : ) I do know now that I am not the only one and that in itself is reassuring!! Thanks to everyone for the encouragement and suggesstions, I now have several different things to try, and hopefully one of them will work!!!
