Can I please ask if anyone has experianced serious complications

following a stomach nerve block.

On thursday 20th november 2003 my husband went for a nerve

block in the stomach muscle to help with the pain from chronic

pancreatitis. Friday the 21st he was in terrible pain and was

admitted to hospital suffering from peritontis and Septacemia from a

punctured large colon. He was operated on and had major blood loss

due to a damaged aortic artery during surgery. He recicved 25 untis

of blood and 10 of plasma and 10 of platlets.

He has come around round from surgery with a colonscopy and is on

Life support in the intesive care ward.

Today the 1st of December he is still on full life support and is

only managing to breath unadided for very short spells of about 15

mintues. His kidneys are showing renal failure. They are trying to

feed him TPN but he is vomiting it back up through his nasal gastric

tube along with blood. Scans today have shown there is no blockage

and no reason for the TPN not to be asorbed. The outlook is not very

good.

Please if any of you have experianced such problems following a

basic abdominal block please can you let me know as I need to show

that we should have been made aware of the dangers.

I am in the UK

Can I also ask that those of you who beleive in God please say a

prayer for Bob.

Personally, I have never even heard of an abdominal nerve block done in the

stomach muscle to relieve pancreas pain. This may be a procedure that is

not commonly done in the U.S., as I believe most of the blocks done here are

entered through the spine in the back.

Your husband, Bob, will be much in my prayers, and I also send prayers and

strength to you during this traumatic time. I truly hope that this medical

nightmare will soon resolve, and that Bob is not suffering.

Please remember to keep us informed of any changes, and know that you

both will be in our thoughts.

With hope and prayers,

I'm so sorry your husband has had such bad complications from the nerve

block. Did he have the one where they go through the back, or the one

with a EUS? This may help others who are thinking of having this surgery

make a decision on whether it's right for them. Thank you for bringing

this to our attention. I'm sure if anyone has had similar complications,

they will speak up if they haven't already (I'm behind on my posts).

Your husband Bob and you will definitely be in my prayers that things

get better soon. Please, keep us informed on how Bob does.

Hi there,

I haven't posted on the site for a week or two as I haven't felt

very well and I am sooo sorry to hear about your husband.

I went to a pain clinic yesterday and on the 23rd Dec I am having

injections into my abdomen.

I am not sure whether this is the same as what your husband has had

but if it is, I am now changing my mind!

I also live in the UK, and would be interesting to know where abouts

you are. I have never heard of doing this procedure before.

If you would prefer not to say what hospital you go to, feel free to

email me or contact me through Yahoo messenger.

Lots of Hugs

Shelley (sheza21@...)
