Guest guest
Well, I know Elaine objected to stevia. I think it was sort of for reasons beyond SCD in a way. She didn't necessarily think it had illegal type starches or sugars in it, but she had looked into it a little bit and found that the molecule resembled a steriod molecule. Her website just says: <<Illegal - It's molecular structure resembles a steroid and the effects are unknown. >> Then, if you go into the " Knowledge Base " at her site, there is a little more info. When she used to participate on the lists, she said she preferred we not use it. She didn't see why we wouldn't just use saccharin or honey. So, technically, " officially " , as far as I know it's not legal... in that Elaine never deemed it to be LEGAL. If this company says she told them it was legal, I would want to see her statement in writing to them.... otherwise, I couldn't recommend it to anyone on the list. Patti Lee Silsby ASD vitamin power w/ stevia ok According to their compounding pharmacist. They said they actually knew Elaine Gottschall and spoke w/ her about this formula before she died - and that it IS ok/ w. the stevia. I just spoke with them today (7/17/06) Strange, as that contradicts info in the book. Oh well. It's a great vitamin formula, but somehow it's just all confusing. It has worked for my son, but yet, he still had issues, stimming, scripting, etc. while using this. Anyone have any thoughts? They say they sell it to many, many SCD patients. Guest guest
In the knowledge base it states that if you have to limit honey and absolutely refuse to use saccharin, you can use stevia. It is also allowed in supplements because it is in such small amounts, and is much better than other options. In doing research, the only other problem I've encountered is that it can cause a drop in blood sugar (hypoglycemia). Sue > > Well, I know Elaine objected to stevia. Guest guest
Oh, thank you, Sue.... I should have looked further into the knowledge base on this. I just didn't have time. Was going by what I had last heard. Guest guest
Well, I talked to them on the phone today. This was per the owner's son. I suppose I could call back and get it in writing, but it might not be in writing if they only discussed it verbally with her. I just don't know. They say they sell it to many who are on the SCD diet, and they label the product as SCD compliant, so I figured someone here on this list might be using it w/o problems.
