Guest guest
Dear Pecan Bread, Kiki has a umbilical hernia. Has had it since she was a new born. It looks bad, but does not seem to bother her. One doctor wants to wait to repair it until she is four! The other wants to repair it now. I would like your opinion. I truly do not want her to be in " memory " when she has this operation. It is certainly going to be emotionally traumatic to her. Even though the surgery is a simple and fast one. She is 5.5 months out on the SCDiet now. We just had an infraction but are back on track. She is healthier than she has ever been. I do know that Elaine suggested One year for healing with Celiac. Should we wait or do the surgery now? The doctors can not decided for us. They are clueless about this SCD/autism/celiac problem and how it affects the human body. Sincerely, Antoinette (celiac) mom to Kiki 2.5 years (celiac/mild asd) SCD 2/

The only thing I can think of that would affect an SCD kid for a surgery like this is that they will undoubtedly want her on antibiotics following it. Katera had to have surgery while on SCD... and we did have to deal with some issues later... because a secondary infection set in at the incision site and she had to do a second round of oral antibiotics following the IV ab's at the hospital. We just stuck with the diet... and upped the yogurt once she was done taking them. Be prepared to pack in all your own food. I wouldn't even trust the scrambled eggs from the hospital. Guest guest
I can tell you that I had the same surgery when I was 3yrs. old. I remember it, but it was not painful at all. I was not in pain following the surgery, and it was not tramatic for me. I can't advise you whether or not to do it now or wait, but I can just tell you that it really was no big deal for me. I hope this helps. Meleah scd 05/06 iel 3yrs., asd Ethan 5yrs., Mark 1yr. Qestion about having Hernia Surgery > > Dear Pecan Bread, > > Kiki has a umbilical hernia.
