Guest guest
Hi, A percussor is a little cup like device used for percussion (pounding) on the chest. it is soft and rubbery. Many people use them instead of cupped hands for manual chest pt. They have a few sizes. We used them up until May when we got the vest. Guest guest
Yes, that's what I was referring to. We called it something different every time we referred to it (popper...patpat thing...) until I heard the nurse call it a " percussor " . I use it on every position although sometimes I'll use my cupped hand for her sides. > what is a precurrsor?? > > CPT > > > > Abby is 10 mos. and gets a sound thumping for 30 minutes whether she > > likes it or not. Guest guest
, In addition to the little rubber cups that fit into your hands, there are also mechanical percussers. With a mechanical percusser, a rubber cup is attached to a " thing " (sorry, I'm blanking on a description -- I haven't had a full cup of coffee yet this morning!). Anyway, this " thing " is attached by a cord to a compressor and it plugs into an electrical outlet. You can set the devise to different speeds. It's basically like a vest, without the vest. You hold the " thing " with the rubber cup on it over different parts of the chest. We bought one along with a new nebulizer compressor when we knew our insurance company was getting ready to ditch us, so it didn't cost us anything. But I preferred doing CPT by hand because the " thing " that the cup is attached to was pretty heavy, and with all that vibration is was hard on my hands. We still have the device but I don't think it works. The plug was wired for hospital plug-in and our home wasn't, so an electrician friend told me I fried the mechanics... or something like that. Guest guest
The " thing " is essentially a jigsaw with the cups attached instead of a saw blade. I know of someone who made his own percussor using a jigsaw, once he realized that was essentially the base of CF percussors. Guest guest
I have only gotten the cups from CF clinic. (we usually call them PT paddles or cups but at CF clinic they call 'em percussers) I don't know about the mechanical percussers.
