Guest guest
Well, some, but not all with cystic fibrosis are just plain salty--I am and I know I look like a walking advertisement, but carry tissue wipes and Kleenex and a plastic bag with me everywhere. There is salt, sort of a powder inside all my clothes sometimes, too and on my face, behind my ears, around my hairline, and yes, between my fingers and my toes. I do bathe a lot! I find that keeping as cool as possible does help! Also drinking enough water does dilute it somewhat. Best I can do! Guest guest
Does eating too much salt make this worse? We give Abby a lot of gatorade and we add salt to her food. We have been told that she needs the extra salt in her diet. Sometimes I wonder if we are giving her too much salt? Guest guest
I would suspect that salt intake does not make the sweating worse. And it probably does not result in the excess secretion of salt. Rather, the excess secretion comes first, as part of a symptom of CF, and that is why we need to add more salt to the diet. It IS possible to give too much salt so it is a good question that you asked. If you are just giving the Gatorade and adding a reasonable amount to food, then it is probably not too much.
