*** Bifidum, Boulardii, and Caseii are not allowed on SCD™. Neither are

soil-based

organisms, as their effects have not been well researched or documented.

I think this is my point. The book that I am reading is VERY well

researched and has many citations that talk about Bifidus/Bifidum being

beneficial. Since this book was originally published in 1998 I have to

imagine that the research has been around for some time. So, lack of

information on these particular strains just doesn't strike me as a good

enough answer.

I'm wanting to know specifically WHY they are not good on the SCD. I am a

Why " person. Just saying it isn't ok makes me want to research it deeper.

So, now I have and my research is saying that Bifidus/Bifidum are ok. What

is the rationale on SCD for them NOT being ok?

Discussions and advertising of alternative diets, illegal foods, treatments

Jazz,

My understanding of why Bifidus isn't permitted on SCD is that while it may

be useful in a healthy gut (and we do have it in a healthy gut), in an

unhealthy gut, Bifidus is not a team player and is apt to overgrow and

become of problem.

Being one of those people who can't resist trying things (What do you MEAN

it'll cause problems, Miz Elaine?!), I did try Bifidus.

The result was the most appalling round of diarrhea since I'd started SCD.

My husband advised me that I went bouncing off the walls. That part, I

don't remember. <wry grin> But since his observation of me on SCD, after a

particularly trying Christmas dinner preparation which I sailed through

without hassles, was, " It's nice to have the woman I married back... " I

have to assume that I was less than charming.

I wish to goodness Elaine was still with us and we could ask. I know that

she regularly read all the reports in order to keep up. So I have to assume

that the " Bifidus is not a team player " issue and possibly others of which

I'm not aware, were her key reasons for considering it illegal on SCD.
