Guest guest
> >> Hi Carol, > > Thank you for the die-off symptoms. Mine are more digestive symptoms Ronnie, Nuts can go rancid at room temperature although when we see them in stores we have no idea how long they've been around. You are certainly eating within SCD parameters but your selctions are still rather limited. The standard suggestion is to go back on the intro diet for a few days and start over with introducig foods. I would get rid of the nuts and get fresh ones, and also start over with the yogurt. This time use nut butter and reserve nut flour in recipes a while longer. The nut butter can pass through the ileum as it is more finely processed than the flour. Other than that I am stumped. (this morning I bit a pear and got an instant pain in my side so " there-you-go " as we say in Canada:-) Carol F. Guest guest
Dr. Freedman, It seems as if you've barely moved on from the intro diet. How long ago did you start SCD? Intro is only for two days. I would suggest adding vegetables like peeled, deseeded and cooked zucchini, green beans (French cut, well-cooked), maybe butternut squash.... and fruits like apple, pear (peeled and cooked) and ripe banana. I am not surprised to hear you reporting constipation with as little fiber as you're getting. Patti Re: ]Clarification Thank you for the die-off symptoms. Guest guest
Thanks Carol, I will follow your advice. I also had a small bit of Farmer's Cheese (Friendship Dairies). Believe me I was terrified because I tried it a few months back along with peanut butter and cramped up and ended up in the bathroom. Yes, I agree, I'm cutting out the nut flour for the time being. Even if it is okay, I definitely overdid it. I think it psychologically soothes as I tell myself I have a nice " bread " in my stomach. LOL I also have a piece of calves liver in my freezer (for B-12 vitamins) but not ready to attempt that yet. Going to go slow. I love this group. I hope you all know how much we appreciate all this valuable information. Love, Ronnie > >> Hi Carol, > > > > Thank you for the die-off symptoms. Guest guest
>Thanks Patti, I guess it was always in the back of my mind to " firm up " those stools. Too much cooked apples always seemed to loosen me up too much. I will begin with more fruits. You're right. I was only doing the grape juice (and in moderation), and I never thought the almond flour could increase bathroom time or soften stools. I'm still leery about peanut butter because I tried it once with a meal that contained Friendship Dairies farmer cheese and I cramped up and wound up back in the bathroom. By the way, I finally figured out why I wasn't posting correctly. I was using Netscape for mail and it wasn't working with Explorer. I think I straightened it out now. Thanks for your patience. Guest guest
<<I guess it was always in the back of my mind to " firm up " those stools. Too much cooked apples always seemed to loosen me up too much.>> Hmmm.... of course everyone's response to foods may be different, but generally, applesauce (and ripe bananas) are considered to be " binding " ... and so are recommended for those experiencing diarrhea. <<I never thought the almond flour could increase bathroom time or soften stools. >> OH.... yes! It definitely could. <<I'm still leery about peanut butter because I tried it once with a meal that contained Friendship Dairies farmer cheese and I cramped up and wound up back in the bathroom. >> So... try almond butter first. Or hazelnut or macadamia butter if you can find it. Whole Foods or Wild Oats are the only places I've bought it.... requiring a 30 to 45 minute car trip. You can also order on the Internet. Just Google " Nut Butters. " Also I hope I did not advise you incorrectly on your current menu because Patti suggested more variety and more fiber. I wanted to make sure nothing you are currently eating is not being well tolerated. I'd do what patti suggested FIRST and if you still have problems, then try two days of the Intro again > > Carol F. I was finding myself making it twice a week. Also I made the > spaghetti squash and meat sauce one night and absolutely could not > stop eating. This is my problem with many SCD foods and ESPECIALLY meat sauce. I make enough for two days and it's always gone on day One. I use bay leaf, basil, oregano, garlic, rosemary in the sauce. Carol F.
