Guest guest
and others I give my son 10 months epsom salt baths every night, about 2 Table spoons in the bath. I also give him 100gm every day of Mg. The other day he was in the carseat and had a strange thing happen, he went blank and limp, stiff and unresponsive. I pulled him out onto the sidewalk and was about to do CPR on him as he was not breathing. The doctor told me it was not to be concerned about as he also had a fever and apparently when babies get to hot that can happen. Central nervous system depression??? From Mg over dosing??? Is this a possibility? mum to Liam 10months old wcf Re: [sharktank] RE: Hey, My guess is that it could. If blood calcium levels effect the release of parathyroid hormone, and Mg is antagonistic to Ca, then there is a good possibility that if a person ingested enough Mg, it could cause a major blood Ca/Mg imbalance. You have heard of Epsom salts, which is magnesium sulphate. People soak in it and it's also used as a laxative. Well, if you take too much of this stuff, you can get very weak, and its not going to be completely caused by a bad case of diarrhea. The symptoms of magnesium toxicity include central nervous system depression, muscle weakness, fatigue and sleepiness. Read this line taken from a site: " Epsom Salt:The magnesium in Epsom Salt is thought to cause a gentle drawing action to reduce inflammation in and around swollen and/or bruised tissues. Some experts also believe that the magnesium is absorbed through the skin, helping the body to heal. Drawing action?? what is it drawing? I have read that it could draw lactic acid, which could make you feel better after a strenuous day. I dont know at all if that is true. But, what if it is absorbed through the skin and it then competes with calcium to relax muscles. Remember: calcium is involved in the contraction of muscles. Could too much blood calcium also cause muscle hypertonicity? Muscle cramps? alan
