Guest guest
Hi, I've just posted recent photos of my son in the N section-- he is P. A week ago he was down to 2mm asymmetry and 90.5% C.I. As I mentioned before, the orthotist isn't really that concerned with the brachy. He says that over time it'll get better on its own. My husband isn't either, but the number still bugs me and I think 's head looks a bit wide and short. I am going to push for keeping the helmet for a while, like until we get down to the mid 80's. We've only had it for six or seven weeks and is just 7.5 months old, so it should be a reasonable thing to do. Any feedback on his headshape would be welcome! By the way, those little swirls in his hair showing in the top view are indeed symmetric with respect to his face. (Without knowing that it's hard to tell how much symmetry he's got.) Thanks to everyone in this awesome group. It has really made a difference for me. in Starband since 01/05/09 Kansas
Guest guest
Are you sure it's in the N section? I just searched all three pages and can't find a P. > > Hi, I've just posted recent photos of my son in the N section-- he is P. > > A week ago he was down to 2mm asymmetry and 90.5% C.I. Guest guest
I think from the top view he actually looks pretty good, but I think most of his flattening is at the bottom/base of his head and is definitely visible from the side. Plus the view from the back does accent the wideness of his head, so although he's not the worst case of brachy I've seen, he could definitely benefit from staying in the band longer (as long as he has ample room to grow in it). The skull base is the most difficult and longest to correct, so the longer he's in the band, hopefully the more correction you'll see down low. Guest guest
this study suggests that natural head growth is primarily front to back versus all around... saying that kids' heads get longer over time, significantly decreasing the cephalic index... i didn't find it on my own; it was from the older plagio group, but i just felt compelled to pass on this new feeling of hope i have after reading it... my boys both wore DOC bands, but still have some assymetry and flatness in places... we see a DO to hopefully see some changes, but now i can look forward to some natural improvement over time... i teared up when i read it because it made me so happy... best wishes to you and your little one... http://smartech.gatech.edu/bitstream/1853/22061/4/presentation_wnotes. pdf (you may have to paste it in your browser and delete any spaces.. that's what i did anyway) Shenelle Katy, TX id twins 23 mos > > Hi, I've just posted recent photos of my son in the N section-- he is P. > > A week ago he was down to 2mm asymmetry and 90.5% C.I. Guest guest
I agree that althought his head is perfectly symmetric he could benefit from more rounding out in the back towards the base of the skull. He's so adorable!! Ana- > > Hi, I've just posted recent photos of my son in the N section-- he is P. > > A week ago he was down to 2mm asymmetry and 90.5% C.I. Guest guest
Thanks for the link. I am going to check that out. I bet there is truth to it, as our orthotist is really respected and has not been overly optimistic or nonchalant about anything else. He said that it can take years to see this improvement naturally, so if your kids are just 23 months you've got plenty of time. (However, I will push to keep 's helmet on as long as everyone else is willing, since it can't hurt.) Enjoy this great time of their childhood! I loved it when my older son really started to talk. at 2. > > > > Hi, I've just posted recent photos of my son in the N section-- he > is P. > > > > A week ago he was down to 2mm asymmetry and 90.5% C.I. Guest guest
Thanks for your input, Ana-! We think he's cute too! Dad thinks he's not as photogenic as big brother, but a couple of these pics are not too bad. > > > > Hi, I've just posted recent photos of my son in the N section-- he > is P. > > > > A week ago he was down to 2mm asymmetry and 90.5% C.I. Guest guest
Thanks everyone! Now I've looked back at the pictures and see that the bottom of the back could use more rounding. Actually we get some redness down there, which could be from the pressure of the helmet and could be just contact dermititis. Hopefully that's not a place that's tight. I think it needed evening out but that's done, as you see. I'll bring it up with the ortho next time. I'm sorry I don't have a before picture, since the contrast would really be inspirational to those still deliberating about whether to get a helmet. I feel really thankful that I followed my gut---and the impression I got right away from reading posts here--- and got banded as soon as we could. Good luck to the rest of you with your head-rounding programs too! > > Hi, I've just posted recent photos of my son in the N section-- he is P. > > A week ago he was down to 2mm asymmetry and 90.5% C.I.
