Guest guest
Yes, she has frequent kidney and liver function tests, and has been on this regimen for 5 years now. So far, it is the only thing that has kept the pain at bay. Yes, like everyone else on pain meds for so long a time she is addicted...no other course of action available. Like I tell doctors, yeah, you can protect her liver and kidney, but not at the expense of living in pain because doctors are afraid to prescribe what a patient needs. Fact of the matter is, we are all going to die of something, and the idea is not to suffer on the way to that death. > > Esp for Margaret... > > my wife gets 10/650 percocet, 2 tabs 4x per day and tylenol #4, 2 tabs 4X > per day for pain. Guest guest
Jimmy, Has she ever been on a duragesic patch. It is a slow release pain medication that is changed every 72 hrs. We treat cancer patient s at the office I work at and that seems to help them with their pain. I know what you mean about being addicted to pain medication. The pain med the doctor prescribed Oxycodone 5mg is not strong enough so I take the Lortab 10/500mg. I take 2 and then I only take the oxycodone if the pain is really bad. My liver function tests were very high after I had pancreatic stent placed in Dec. So with taking the Lortab they are really concerned about my liver. Guest guest
Yeah, unfortunately, she has tried everything...every pain medication popular today except oxycontin, and she refuses to use it at all, under any circumstances. Morphine patches don't work, methadone, pain clinic just makes things worse; demerol is no good. Its a mess with no clear end in sight. Fortunately, she only takes the tyl #4 when she has to...for the " breakthrough " pain, until time for the next percocet. thanks. > > > > Esp for Margaret... > > > > my wife gets 10/650 percocet, 2 tabs 4x per day and tylenol #4, 2 > > tabs 4X > > > per day for pain. Guest guest
They don't mean don't take the pain meds, they mean get her doctor to prescribe something without SO MUCH acetaminophen. That's just not good for ANYBODY and there are ways around it that still help the pain. They're not talking about addiction - it's about the harm the acetaminophen can do that is just not necessary. Guest guest
I understand what you are saying, but what I am telling you is that she has had this for over twenty years, and it is the ONLY thing that works. There are no other options, other than a pancreatectomy. but thanks anyway... > They don't mean don't take the pain meds, they mean get her doctor to prescribe something without SO MUCH acetaminophen. Guest guest
Jimmy, When I wrote, I mistakenly said kidney problems when I meant to say liver, sorry about that. I'm also very sorry to hear about all the difficulty your wife has had with the other conventional medications. Hearing now about all the other medications that your wife has already tried, I understand now why she's taking what she is, she hasn't any other choice. If that's all that works for her, that's what she has to do. I agree, we are all going to die of something, and she deserves to be as pain free as possible. With hope and prayers, Heidi Heidi H.
