Guest guest
Antoinette, Kiki will be okay! I know this is a scarey time for you, but healing takes time, it is a process, there will be ups and downs. When the downs happen, all you can do is hold tight and see if there is anything to learn about the situation...regressions have been powerful teachers for me, a time for reflection on what I am doing. Kiki will be alright, she is losing some ground, but she will get back there. Remember, as long as it takes to become sick or be sick, becomming well will take time. A crisis can come on with many factors in the diet and environment and body, without illegals, that is for sure. One of the unfortunate predicaments of gastro illness, it irritates nerves that affect learning and behavoir in some people, so as this inflammation subsides, Kiki will start to gain ground again. Summer Bunce wrote: Dear SCD pals, After counseling with others, we truly believe that KIKI's virus was made more complicated by the three month regression that Elaine warns about in her BTVC book. Plus this looks more like a " celiac crises " yet to the best of our knowledge their has been no infractions. Yesterday, little Kiki had a seizure for the first time, since they vanished with SCDiet. She truly is having problems, and showing indication of serious regression. Many autistic behaviors are back. She is still trying to talk though, we have had no delirium episodes. Thank God this has not taken away with this set back! Yet, her night terrors, irritability, tantrums, eye contact, and mild stimming is back. She is eating intro again with the yogurt .....the little bit she will eat. Mostly breastfeeding with Lactase enzyme to ensure lactose broken down, and also taking SCD safe Acidophilus. Have others had this happen. Mimi says that we will be OK, it will just take time to get her back to where she was. Patti has beautifully explained to us, how some the bad gut guys are slow to leave...and when they do they release toxins that can cause returned symptoms of autism. ***We would just like to hear from others that made it through this first year full of regressions. We veterans have had periodic flares, setbacks, stomach flu, reactions to an undisclosed illegals and thought it was the end of the world and the diet a failure. I have never failed to recover, not once! Carol F. Toronto, celiac, SCD 6 years
Guest guest
Antoinette, I am sorry to hear that Kiki is experiencing some additional problems. Let me suggest this---the problems can be a sign that SCD is working. Rather than regression, it is a progression of her body trying to rid itself of the toxins. In the hospital, if Kiki received IVs, then the odds are that they contained dextrose. Even the glucose IVs probably contain illegals, but this is ok---MY OPINION. During a health crisis, we sometimes have to allow for illegals (via meds, etc.) in order to heal that crisis (again--my opinion.) If there are future hospitalizations, discuss SCD with your doctor and how to avoid IVs, especially those containing dextrose. You are doing the right things- eating foods that are easier to digest and preparing foods in a way that render them easier to digest. Use epsom salts to help the body with the detoxing. Yogurt plus the acidophilous may be creating a rapid detox. How much yogurt is she eating? How much acidophilous is she taking? What lactose enzyme is she taking? Generally, lactase enzymes increase galactose which can wreck havoc on the pancreas and liver and throw systems out of sync. Please note, these are not my areas of expertise by any stretch, and I rarely contribute in the enzyme/supplement areas! Also, you mentioned in a previous post wanting to move forward with the diet for other members of your family. If you have not checked out the SCD recipe sites already, I encourage you to look at them. I spent a day printing them out and making a cookbook with my family, and they have loved most of them. It helped me see how to make easier to digest foods (earlier stage foods) in delicious and creative ways--way better than a meat patty, bland cooked veggies, and plain cooked fruit! Also, think of family favorites from before GFCF/SCD and try to make them SCD legal. http://www.scdrecipe.com/ and http://www.pecanbread.com/recipes.html have wonderful ideas. Good luck, and know that you and your family are in my thoughts and prayers. Guest guest
Dear , yes the IV had Dextrose in it. They new we where SCD. They justified that since it was by passing the gut that she would be OK. What is your take? She eats yogurt once a day. A small bowl full (which we have been doing for 4 months now....with only one time a 2 months when we took it out). She gets 1/2 capsule of acidophilus/day. She gets a pinch of Lactase with each nursing. " Super Milk Digestant " By Malabar...all legal ingredients from what I have concluded on my own. Please tell me more about the pancreas and liver and how it throws the systems out of sync. Do you think nursing her without enzymes would be OK...maybe even better...she will not wean! We have tried...causes her to loose too much weight, anorexia and food strikes...and behavior becomes much worse...in other words she becomes MISERABLE> She is truly better now home....her diarrhea vanished yesterday. YEAH!!!! Yet last night we had delirium episode and on Sunday one seizure. They had vanished with SCD, prior to this set back. Thank you for the recipe section...I need to take the time to do this. We have been so SIMPLE...it is time to expand....especially after KIKI gets well again. I have book marked them. Guest guest
Antoinette, The IV bypassing the gut was Elaine's take on this too. When I was in the hospital I spoke to her and she said that IVs with sugars in them were ok because they did not go to the gut.
