Guest guest
, In my daughter's case, repo caused brachy in addition her initial plagio. Ever since she's been in the DOC band, her plagio has resolved itself but we are now in a second DOC band to hopefully bring her brachy number down a little more. I took her to Orthomerica on January 5th and her CI was at 93.2%. I think that she has improved since but I won't be able to tell for sure until I take again for another scan on April 8th. I'd have to say thought that it troubles me a little bit that your orthotist is not concerned with your son's brachy. 90% is still pretty high. Your baby is still pretty young, right? If there is still foam left in the band, it should be shaved to allow your son's head to grow in the back from now on. That's what CT is doing with my daughter's second band. I am wondering if repositioninga child with plagio can cause brachy. We noticed my son's flat spot at about 3 months and really started repositioning a few weeks later. The main changes I noticed in the 2 months we did were that there was less of an angle to the flat side and that he seemed to get flatter in back. Did repo cause that? Also, we have had great results with the Starband for the plagio: down from 11mm to 2mm in six weeks (we were down to 3mm in just three weeks!). But we just went from 91% to 90.5% cephalic index. How much longer will it take to get down into the mid-80's? Or will we? The orthotist isn't really very concerned with the brachy--he thinks it will resolve itself over time. Is that true? 's head isn't really flat on back, it just has a kind of round rather than oblong shape. I should really post some pics! I can't post "before" pics because the correction was so quick I didn't get around to taking any. Thanks! in Starband since 01/05/09Kansas
Guest guest
Thanks for the feedback, Leila. Yes, my son is just 7.5 months old now, so he has time. I don't see as much redness in the back of his head when we take the band off, so hopefully the ortho shaved some back there. It's a Starband, so there's still plenty of room. I don't know what our ortho has in mind. He said that he wouldn't band a baby who started like this (at 2mm and 90%), but he has also not suggested finishing any time soon. I am thinking we should just continue for a few more months, at least, but not if it won't work, of course. My husband is the one taking to the appointments, since I have to work, and I've instructed him not to agree to quit the band any time soon! If anyone else is reading: what kind of improvement have you had with the brachy from a Starband and how long did it take? > > From: <sadietheseamstrix@...> > Subject: Can repo cause brachy? and more > Plagiocephaly > Date: Monday, February 23, 2009, 11:16 AM > > > > > > > Maybe this has been discussed before. Guest guest
My daugther had brachy with very little asymmetry. she wore a starband and went from about 96% to 85%. Our specialist (cranio facial plastic surgeon) recommends banding at 90% or higher, and wants to see all of his patients get into the 80's before graduating. I wanted to quit when my daughter was about 87 or 88%, and our doc and ortho convinced me to keep going until we outgew the band. -christine sydney, 3 yrs, starband grad > > > > From: <sadietheseamstrix@> > > Subject: Can repo cause brachy? and more > > Plagiocephaly > > Date: Monday, February 23, 2009, 11:16 AM > > > > > > > > > > > > > > Maybe this has been discussed before. Guest guest
I also believe that repo caused my daughter's Brachy. We noticed her right side flatening at about 2.5 months and started repositioning. By 6 months, it was evenly flat. My daughter is in a STARband for Brachy and is getting good improvement for her age. But our band was designed only for the Brachy since her assymetry is within the normal range. The STARband is made with lots of room in the back for kids with Brachy. I've been told that they have to grow several cm before they need to shave it. We will probably never need to shave any off. , mom to , 18 months tomorrow 14 weeks in STARband plus CST land Can repo cause brachy? and more> Plagiocephaly > Date: Monday, February 23, 2009, 11:16 AM> > > > > > > Maybe this has been discussed before.
