Guest guest
Welcome and family! Peanuts are not required on the diet and are started much later for those who want to have them. Soy is not on the diet at all, and the diet is gluten free. Casein may currently produce and adverse reaction or be a true allergy. Although yogurt is an excellent adjunct to SCD IT IS NOT MANDATORY, There is information in earlier messages on how the home incubated yogurt denatures the casein. I could not use eggs when I started but tolerated them very well within the first two weeks. There are egg free and dairy free recipes at: www.pecanbread.com IMO the food on the diet is delicious and most picky eaters succumb even if you have tense times at first. > If my son's allergies came back with egg being one of them, should I > still avoid it during the SCD Intro diet. Guest guest
Dear and Family, WELCOME TO PECAN BREAD. We also came with many, many " allergies " . WE are now discovering that it must have been " leaky gut " , because most of them are now vanishing. The Yogurt has been a GOD SEND. We where originally fearful of it, being " casein free " ourselves. Go to this link and see why casein is rendered harmless. We tolerate this wonderful food that is full of probiotics very well! Powders just don't work as well, from our experience in trying to break this " vicious cycle " . After using the yogurt we say the most gains. Now I can never make enough. In this house A yogurt maker is a MUST. http://www.pecanbread.com/goatyogurt.html<http://www.pecanbread.com/goatyogurt.h\ tml> Elaine Said: " The Specific Carbohydrate DietT is biologically correct because it is species appropriate. The allowed foods are mainly those that early man ate before agriculture began. The diet we evolved to eat over millions of years was predominantly one of meat, fish, eggs, vegetables, nuts, low-sugar fruits. Our modern diet including starches, grains, pasta, legumes, and breads has only been consumed for a mere 10,000 years. In the last hundred years the increase in complex sugars and chemical additives in the diet has led to a huge increase in health problems ranging from severe bowel disorders to obesity and brain function disorders. We have not adapted to eat this modern diet as there has not been enough time for natural selection to operate. It therefore makes sense to eat the diet we evolved with. The Specific Carbohydrate DietT was clinically tested for over 50 years by Dr Haas and biochemist Elaine Gottschall with convincing results. From feedback from the various lists and other information at least 75% of those who adhere rigidly to the diet gain significant improvement. SMILE, you have hope now! Takes a while to adjust ( to no longer being a gluten/starch and sugar glutton) but once we did, we swear food tastes better. Hope this helps to ease your mind, Antoinette and (celiac), parents to -5 (celiac/adhd), Kiki-2 (celiac, autistic) and Bubbles-1 (hyperekplexia) SCD since 2/06 Intro diet ? If my son's allergies came back with egg being one of them, should I still avoid it during the SCD Intro diet. He is also allergic to Gluten ,Casien ,soy, Peanut. Gluten, Casien and soy I know I have to avoid, but could Peanut and egg be a true allergy or just there because of his leaky gut? I am preparing to start this diet in three days. I am making sure I have everything in line before we " dive-in " . I am putting the whole family on it so there will be no mistakes. I am really nervous since my son is very stubborn and I know he will go days without eating. I feel so bad that we have to do this to the kids, but after reading what Elaine said " doing this we are giving our children what is probably the most nutritious diet in the world " and I keep running that quote through my head and I think that is what is giving me the drive. Does anyone have any words of advice or wisdom? Will I need all the kitchen Equipment immediatly? Thanks for reading Son-ASD - 4YRS. Daughter-bowelissues -2yrs. An IgE test is for true allergies and if those foods showed positive on an IgE test, then you will need to remove them completely. If they showed positive on an IgG test, then there is a good chance you will be able to reintroduce those foods when the gut is healed. As for whether you need all of the equipment immediately, the one thing I would definitely recommend is a good food processor. That will be the most useful kitchen item to own if you don't already have one. As time goes on, you'll figure out which other gadgets will make things easier for you. Guest guest
<<Does anyone have any words of advice or wisdom?>> , My suggestion would be to go to www.pecanbread.com and read everything in the " Overcoming Difficulties " section... including the " Picky Eaters " ideas and tips. Also, in the " Food Preparation " section under " ASD Intro " , if you haven't already. You might want to print some of that stuff out. Remember that the intro diet only lasts a couple of days. Even if all he ate was grape juice gelatin popsicles (or whatever) for two days, he'll be fine as long as he stays hydrated. Other than that, I'd suggest singing a lot.... preferably silly songs like " A Peanut Sat on a Railroad Track " and the " Guess I'll Go Eat Worms " song.... and rent a bunch of favorite videos to make time go by faster. Stock up on epsom salts for baths.... and don't forget to BREATHE! Patti, mom to Katera
