I don't think they are ever to young!! You would want all teachers to

receive an in-service on CF as well as have other modifications in place!

Rosemary in NY with 3 children (13, 10.6 and 6.6)

with CF. I have a dog named TOBI and have

coined the phrase " BREATHE DAMMIT "

:

Is this a public pre-K? I thought that 504s could only be done for public

schools. If it is... I would do it. Ricky has a regular IEP ( " other health

impaired " being his qualification) and it has helped a lot. He just started

second grade today.

To 504 or not to 504

Ok

I need opinions. is going into the 2nd year of a 2 year pre-k

program. Her school was great about allowing things like unlimited restroom

visits and whatnot (who would want 3 year olds peeing on the rug?) But this

year she will be in 3 half days a week instead of 2, more kids will be in

the class and there is a new teacher.........

My question is this, is pre-k too young to put a 504 plan in place or should

I just wait until next year? Has anyone done it for pre-school?

Talk to her teacher. They will get it going that is their job. We had our

daughters started when she was in 1 grade and that is when she was diagnosed so

if we would have know when she was in kindergarten we would have done it. So

get things going as soon as possible. Deb A

Becky,

According to the specs in the book for teachers " Cystic Fibrosis in the

classroom " (Thanks Bev) it says that the IEP is for public schools and that

the 504 can be applied to any school that receives any federal funding, (

parochial or private schools usually receive some federal funding as well as

tuition)

So, it sounds like you all think that I'm not crazy, and that I should do this.

So, How do I go about it? I have never dealt with the school district that I

live in now because their schools are so crappy they are the worst in the state.

Obviously I can't send the Queen there so she goes to the Catholic school.

Can I do this thru her school or do we HAVE to involve the school district?

Although we live in the boundaries of the crappy district 's school

actually lies within a good district. (even though it is only 3 blocks away)

Would we then go through that one to set this up or our own crappy district?

(sorry for the language, I can't think of a kinder way to describe the

deplorable state of affairs in the district)

Has anyone set up a 504 in a catholic or private school? Help!

Well, also has hydrocephalus so she has problems with memory and she

needs thing repeated to her because it takes a while for things that don't

interest her to soak in. Her nero. surgeon said she would need a lot of one on

one to help her learn so the school as been great with that. Also with all of

the medication it is hard to do a lot of homework at home so they try to do a

lot of that at school as much as possible. Also about having to go to the

bathroom Sometimes she would use the bathroom as a stress relief from when they

were doing some subject she didn't like so she was kind of abusing this but on

the other hand I said she if she says she need to I would or she could be put in

a really embarrassing situation. Another one is eating things in her

classroom how she would need a pill if they did. They also want some goals for

them to

help too like doing things on her own which she is really bad at.

You really can put anything you want in the 504 so just tell them what you want

them to do. I hope this helps. Deb A
