Guest guest
sorry this doesn't apply to the message below; i am an internet (for that matter computer) idiot. i need help for my husband--he wants to quit smoking and now knows (i hope) just how urgent it is that he succeeds, but every time he tried--he failed. the friend of mine i wrote about before in my introductions with the daughter that died at 18 of c.f. never quit and from my understanding this was why her daughter couldn't get on a tx list. i don't think i could bear to see this happen to katelyn. help please!!!!!!!!! beth bennett wrote:go to www.irs.gov and you can find out if you are getting one and when it will be mailed. Guest guest
Hi Beth! Something different works for everyone, and I strongly recommend that your hubby get some kind of support, whether it is a Smokenders group or a doctor and an Internet support group. I quit alone and I really missed the support. I stuck with it, though, and eventually my husband did the patch and succeeded (it was his 2nd try with that method). Failure is part of the effort, unfortunately. Very few people succeed who try the first time. That is the *good* news for your husband, This could really be the one! Get all the support you can. Change all the things for which you " need " a cigarette (I could not sit and read a book fro a few years, had an awful time paying bills (don't know why, but it was a habit to have a cigarette at the table while I wrote checks), and I STILL have a hard time talking on the phone (EIGHT YEARS LATER!!!) BUT, I don't miss it, finally. I 'd be happy to chat with your husband anytime. GOOD LUCK! Guest guest
I wish I had some really good advice, but all I can say is what worked for my dad. He had a heart attack (then another and another), which really scared him. He hasn't smoked even once since. Of course, being in the hospital in Cardiac ICU so much and not being allowed to smoke, just using the patch, I think helped him quit a bit faster, as by the time he got out, some of the emotional addiction was lessened. And I truly believe, as most ex- and current smokers do, that the emotional addiction is much harder to get rid of. The nicotine chemical addiction goes away, but that " craving " never really does. My MIL tried to quit, but was unsuccessful. She said it was the emotional connection she had with the cigarettes that was the hardest part. There is one product out there that may be worth trying. I don't remember the exact name, but it looks sort of like a cigarette, but doesn't have smoke--it calms the nicotine cravings, and like the patch, I guess you " step down " . Haven't known anyone who ever tried it, but thought it was interesting. Here is a good website to go to for support and ideas for quitting. http://www.quitsmoking.com/info/method/readmethods.htm I wish your husband the best of luck! Guest guest
Forgot to also mention that my father started on Zyban, and really likes it. He said he hardly feels any craving at all anymore. Good ideas . I got the itching side effect and had to stop taking it within 2 weeks. Many people have had great success with it. jan
