Guest guest
Hi Jan, Dr. Haver is her CF doc. Who is your son's? How is he doing? I am in a panick, my husband just called to tell me that they can not flush her picc line. A pedi surgeon did it. They have actually paged a pedi surgeon to look at it. He does the night shift, I do the day shift at the hospital and my other daughter and son get shuffled from pillar to post during times like these. Thanks, Jenna

My son goes to MGH as well. Hope the meds kick in quickly. Seeing them with those really high temp is frightening. I'll say a prayer tonight for you both. Did a peds specialist put in the PICC line? My DS had one put in last year at Children's and it went very smoothly. I'm sorry hers did not. jan

Guest guest
Hi, I had Pylo once. It was pretty painful and since I was a few months pregnant with the kept me in the hospital. (Ok the nurse said the pain of her pylo infection was worse than childbirth but I don't think I would go that far) Not an experience that I would wish on anyone though, especially a little one. I hope Hannah is feeling better soon. (Pylonephritis)/Kidney infections Hey everyone, Hannah was admitted yesterday to MGH in Boston. She has a kidney infection. The surgeon finally got a pic line placement in the jugular today. She is a hard stick. Her veins are very spindly and blow quite easily. Anyway, they are putting her on TOBI treatments through nebulizer, they said that Tobramyacin through IV could do worse damage to her kidneys. They don't know how long she will be in the hospital for. They are going to be doing cpt 3xs a day and tobi and pulmicort. She is running a fever that ranges from 105-101.6. It will take a couple of days to creep down. Any suggestions? Jenna Mom to Hannah 21 months w/cf, Shamus 6 1/2 no cf, a 4 no cf.

Guest guest
Thank you for the well wishes. Hannah should be getting out of the hospital on Monday. She will be on TOBI nebs for 21 more days and on an antibiotic for her kidney infection for the next two weeks. Then she needs to follow up with the nephrologist. She needs to have the IVP for the kidneys. They think she has kidney reflux and it will need to be surgically repaired. They seem to think that she has some sort of kidney damage there is an abnormality with one of her kidney's ....oh well we'll know in a couple of weeks. Guest guest
My daughter Marie non cf had to have a kidney removed when she was 3 1/2 years old. She also had ruflux and her kidney for some reason never grew. So because she was young we chose to have the surgery. She is now almost 22 years old has had 1 child and another on the way. She does not remember the surgery and has only had 1 bad kidney infection since then. She no longer has reflux in the good kidney and her remaining kidney is a hugh momma of one (thats what the dr.'s say). So I hope that all goes well for you. I know it was a long time ago but I still remeber it, you have any questions. judy mom to wcf 19 1/2 years Re: (Pylonephritis)/Kidney infections Thank you for the well wishes. Guest guest
What are the symptoms of kidney reflux? How would you know if a toddler had it? Guest guest
we didn't know about any of the biggest problem, except that the infection never went away. She was 3 when it started happening and we didn't know anything except that she had a urniary infection. So we did the dye in the kidneys and they put a tube up into the bladder, when that filled up it went up the utheha's into the kidneys its not suppossed to do that. The dye went straight to the kidenys, and we could see that one was only the size of a walnut and the other was a good size. They didn't know what caused that one to be small as she had no injuries or infections. We decided to have the surgery because we didn't want her on antibactics until a teenager, the med's would never reach the bad kidney anyway and then they wanted to do surgery. I knew she would never forgive us for waiting until she was a teenager to have surgery. And I am glad we did as she remembers nothing and like I said she is very healthy today. Let me know what you find out. judy Re: (Pylonephritis)/Kidney infections > > > Thank you for the well wishes. Hannah should be getting out of the hospital > on Monday.
