I would second this post. I think repo during day time wouldn't completely prevent plagio, if baby tends to sleep on one site during night time. I think for my second baby I would try side sleeping with a help of positioning wedges (I know it  sounds almost as a crime).  I feel  I let them scare myself too much with SIDS since it was my first baby and had no experience. I also think that the ultra hard mattresses they make us use do make plagio even more severe.ZhyldyzFrom: ashesval <ashesval@...>Plagiocephaly Sent: Monday, March 16, 2009 12:51:16 PMSubject: Re: New baby on way, how to prevent plagio with this one?

I know for my next child, I am hoping the baby will not mind being in a sling for a lot of the time. Tummy time as much as possible even if the baby hates it. I tried all the aggressive repo therapies from two months onwards with my son currently in a band, so I realize a lot of the prevention isn't just during the day, but also how the baby sleeps at night. The repo didn't work that well. It may have prevented him from being severe though.

From what I have read here, torticollis should be looked for. Obviously we know our pediatricians/ GP's don't often spot it or think of it as a big deal, but if you see any inkling of it, try to get it addressed asap, or if you are comfortable, try the stretching exercises on the baby if you knew how to do it with your other baby.

You know what to look for now, but it is still possible for it to happen again. Chances are it won't but there are people in this group who did everything they could to prevent it from happening again to another child, and it has.

All the best! Hope your pregnancy is going well!

I completely agree with this. I pad my baby mattress with a huge blanket and then put a sheet on it ultra taught so its like a pillowtop mattress but not so deep. When he fully sleeps in his tummy I will remove it. If you can put your baby on their tummy to sleep during the day and you can read a book next to them or if you have other children play in the same room. I undestand this not always possible with the disgusting matenity policy in the US. Ironically my first slept on her tummy 80% of the time but I did have help watching her and she has a perfect head. Also avoid the hard backed rocker/bouncers for infants. that was my biggest mistake with my second so I'm essentially responsible for my sons plagio. And use the boppy head rest which has two concentric circles to anoid plagio. And I believe they make inserts for your baby to sleep in with an RX which have holes for the head while they are infants before moving around. You should have an easier time convincing your ped to give you one of these. You have to do what feels right. And remember that there are moms who aggressively repo and do tummy sleep and still end up in bands. We just have to do our best! :-) From: "ashesval" Date: Tue, 17 Mar 2009 15:26:55 -0000<Plagiocephaly >Subject: Re: New baby on way, how to prevent plagio with this one? I am still scared to use any sleep device. I was one of those who was scared of SIDS and got the firmest mattress, and had nothing else in the crib ( still don't at 9 months ). I can't let my babies sleep on their tummies until they turn that way themselves. I am just too scared of SIDS. :( > > > > Has anyone found something they use to help, I'd like to prevent from day one this time.
