Guest guest
Well, gets her head scanned tomorrow at 3:00. This is the appointment that I was told they would decide whether to take her out of the helmet. I recently took some pictures and I only see subtle changes, but there is some rounding in the back and towards the front. She doesn’t actually appear to be that much longer (the goal with Brachy). Anyway, I’ve posted pictures under W in the N file. My nerves are about trying to convince them to keep her in the helmet for two more months (the full 6 months). I’m anticipating that our numbers will be so so and our ortho may suggest that we will have limited growth from here on out due to her age and so it would make sense just to stop. Since neither nor I seem to mind the helmet, I’d like to keep going in the hopes that she’ll hit another growth spurt. I don’t know whether I’ll meet resistance with this or not, but I’d appreciate any suggestions in case I do. I’m not naturally an assertive person so this is difficult for me and I’ll do better if I prepare myself before hand. What kinds of arguments would you use? Thanks. , mom to , 18.5 months 17 weeks in STARband plus CST land
Guest guest
Hi , If they recommend stopping and you want to continue, I would tell them you know babies that have had good progress after this age. 's son Jake only started at 17 mo, wore two bands and got correction all the way until age 2 (not dramatic but little by little). Tell them you know there are no guarantees, but that you want to try and see what happens. I don't know why they wouldn't be open to that. Good luck, let us know her progress, and what happens -christine sydney, 3 yrs, starband grad > > Well, gets her head scanned tomorrow at 3:00. Guest guest
I also have a scan tomorrow to let us know if Dina will still need her Starband. She's had it for 4 months and has had great progress. Today I took her to Dr for a slight fever and her Peds' partner said that if I hadn't mentioned the helmet, he couldn't tell that Dina had a flatspot. SO it makes me feel very positive when a ped can't tell. We go to the cranial dr on friday who will advise us if Dina still needs more time or graduate. She's 11 months and really want her to graduate so she can be out of it by her 1st birthday. She sits up, crawls and cruises all day long so I am thinking of keeping the helmet on while she sleeps if they decide to graduate her. Keep your fingers crossed that tomorrow's scan will show that she can graduate? Her last scan in January showed 7mm assymetry. I have read that 3mm and under is normal, is that right? Guest guest
Yes, 0-3mm is considered normal. Good luck with the visit and let us know what happens. -christine sydney, 3yrs, starband grad > > > > > > Well, gets her head scanned tomorrow at 3:00.
