Is it true that a baby can only wear a Doc Band for 16 week max. Is this true

even if there has been show growth and they haven't grown out of it yet? Also,

how many babies wind up needing a second band, and does insurance usually cover

a second one if they covered the first. Thanks so much!

Yes, it's true that a DOCBand only lasts a max of 16 weeks. Even if there's room to grow, the integrity of the plastic breaks down (stretches and weakens) and the holding points lose their strength, and according to our therapist "you'd just be keeping his head warm." About 14% of babies need a second band.Jake-2.5 (DOCBand Grad 9/08)Jordan-5>> Is it true that a baby can only wear a Doc Band for 16 week max. Right, I should have said about 14% GET a second band, not necessarily need it,

it just depends on the parents, etc., like Leila said. But Cranial Tech's stats

actually report that only about 14% of all of their clients combined get 2nd

bands, and I forget the exact percentage of how many get 3rd bands, but it's

something like only 3 or 4%, maybe even lower.

From what I know CT is pretty firm about 16 weeks. They don't feel the holding

power is adequate after that time. About 15% end up getting a second band.

Insurance varies very widely. Some don't cover either band, some cover both. In

some cases you have to have a certain severity to get coverage, so it would

depend on what the measurements were when starting the second band.

I'm not going to be much help because I am exactly where you are right now. My

4 1/2 month old had his scan today. He will get his band next Wednesday. Our

tech said he would outgrow his band in 6-10 weeks. She said there is a good

chance he will need a second one. He was also categorized as severe. We are

hoping/praying he will only need one. I have no idea how we will aford a second

one, but if he really needs it we will find a way. We have been doing stretches

at home since he was 2 months per pediatricians instructions. We have a

physical therapy eval on the 20. I really wish we had started PT a long time

ago. The stretches at home have really helped though. Good luck to you.

Hoping both our little ones adjust well to the band and have good quick

correction.

> Hi everyone. My 4 1/2 month old son Peyton is going for his head scan to get

his band ordered tomorrow. I know I am more nervous about this process than

what he will ever notice. Hopefully you can answer or give input on what you

have been through with your child.

band. She stated that he is severe and they won't know until he outgrows the

band itself. How many of you had to go into a second band??? We are hoping

since he is young enough, he will only have to have the one. Also, how many of

you are taking your child for the physical therapy to help with the stretching

and strengthening?? Do you go once or multiple times a week?

My son has been in his band almost 4 months now, and our Cranial Tech is saying

they would like to keep him in it a few more weeks than we are planning, but he

growing out of it. So it took him 4 months to grow out of it, but he is also

older (was 7 1/2 months when he got his band), so his head has grown slower,

giving him more time in the first band. It could work out that your son might

need a second, but don't worry about it too much yet.... his little head is

growing so fast, and with the band it will change just as quickly as it is

growing, so I'd say it is possible he will only need the one. I am, of course,

not a doctor, but don't stress yourself out about having to pay for a second

until the time comes. They mentioned a second to us, also, but there is no need

for it. So keep your head up, and don't stress!! :-)
