Hi everyone,

We are at 11 weeks on the diet. My younger son (ASD and on-and-off GI issues)

has had looser stools than ever since starting SCD. So, this weekend I put him

back on the intro diet.

Here we are, day 3 of the re-intro -- chicken, chicken soup, cooked carrots,

grape jello, and this morning a little cooked apple -- and he has poop full of

chunks of carrot! Arrrgh! Cooked carrots are supposed to be digestible -- how

come they're showing up?

Any advice?

Marina,

You may need to puree things for a while. Whatever it takes to make everything

as EASY to digest as possible. Kids often just don't chew very well so even

" easy to digest " vegetables will not be broken down by a gut that is

less-than-perfect.... if they don't chew first. I puree a LOT of stuff for my

daughter (recently started back on SCD after being off of it for almost two

years). For the same reasons, applesauce is easier to digest than chunks of

cooked apple.

Marina,

I totally agree with Patti: well cooked and blended veggies are

easier to digest. For some kids, carrots are difficult to digest.

Young carrots are easier than older ones.
