I'm so glad that you mentioned the breathing monitor because I was just going to

ask the group if anyone had ever tried one. My friend had one for her son

because he refused to sleep on this back. Her pediatrician suggested the

monitor which her son slept on - on his tummy. He is 2 years old now and his

head is a perfect round ball. I also heard of someone buying a pulse monitor

(like the ones in the hospital) which was clipped onto the baby's toe when he

slept. If the baby stopped breathing, an alarm would sound. So I guess my

question is, if we had the monitoring device, is it safe to let our future baby

sleep on his tummy??

commited to helping too, as we all saw my first Daughter strugle for so many

months!

Twenty years ago it was considered unsafe to have the child sleep anywhere but on his stomach by all the professionals.  Use your best judgement and if your child seems to do better on his or her tummy, take all the necessary precautions and you shouldn't have anything to worry about.  I let the girls nap on their stomachs often when they were itty bitty, but it didn't make much of a difference for Elly.  Granted she's not your typical case either.
