Guest guest
Ladies, I decided to add a new meal to my sons list of scd foods and made a legal soup of beef, veggies, and kidney beans. I pre-soaked over night the beans, rinsed and drained them. The basic soup recipe was from BTVC. He has been eating this for a few weeks just fine maybe having it once a day but now he has taken some steps backward. His bm's are very large and appear to be hard as a rock - clogging our toilet's several times. Also he's having a bm maybe every 3 days, which seems to be too long for him to go without having one. He's been scripting, visual stimming again, appearing to be more in his own world. I get so frustrated becausw I work so hard at this. I'm hoping that starting this diet for him at almost 6 years old is not too late for him. Do most kids recover completely from this diet? Are your kids recovering/recovered? Is this going to always be such a battle? My son has been strictly on the diet since 01/20/06 and was gf/cf before that. Can anyone offer any advice? Thank you, Tammy

I am embarrassed but we do talk about it here. I constantly have that clogging problem but it means formed and firm stools. Carol F. Guest guest
Kidney beans are hard to digest for some. What one cannot digest ferments and feeds microbes. Healing the intestine is a step by step process. Healing will be slowed if eating foods that are indigestable by the body and feed bodily infections. 6 years old doesn't mean anything in the scheme of getting healthy. The scripting and all the rest is a tip off for you to address something he is eating in the diet. The kidney beans are for when all symtoms have disappeared. There are other beans that would be better to start with - white pea beans (also called navy beans). When you start a new food you should try it slowly and with small amounts - that way if there is any problem you shouldn't experience a large setback. To get him feeling better you could try a few days on a more basic diet to clear out the beans. It was likely just too soon for the beans. Please, don't beat yourself up about it - these things do hapen especially during the first year of healing on the diet.
