Hello all! In my plight to better educate myself, I have been doing

lots of searches for plagiocephaly online and found this message

board - woohoo! =) I am a mom to three children ages 4, 2 and 6

months. My baby, Audrey, was born in July 2008. When she was 4

weeks old, I noticed that her head had a funny slope down from the

right side to the left... this was strange to me since neither of my

other children had that issue. At her 1 month checkup, the

pediatrition noticed her head tilted to the right and diagnosed right

torticullus. (Also something I had never heard of!) Since the tort

seemed mild, we tried to reposition her and encourage her to look to

her left side, but saw little improvement by her 2 month checkup, so

she started physical therapy for the torticullus after that. We

still go to PT about once a month even though the tort has mostly

worked itself out.

ANYWAYS... bless her heart, but her head is still shaped funny and

we've seen little improvement over the past several months. It

doesn't help that she sucks her right thumb when she sleeps, turning

her head towards that side again. After much thought and with some

trepidation, we have decided to move forward with the helmet. She

was scanned in early December and again in early January and we

actually saw a regression, instead of improvement. In addition to

the sloping forehead, her ears are misaligned, and her right cheek is

forward, causing that cheek to look puffier than the other one. We

ordered the Star band (with butterfly design!) and are picking it up

on Tuesday. No one is questioning our decision and most of our

friends and family are supportive, so that helps a lot! I hope that

she is improved enough to remove the helmet before it gets too hot

here in the Atlanta area!

And speaking of helmet removal - has anyone who has a child who's

graduated from a helmet seen any regression? I was just wondering -

because if she wears the helmet until she is 10 months old, and then

it is removed and she still sleeps on her right side, will it undo

all of the good of the helmet in the first place? Any experiences

with that?

Thanks for reading my really long post! =)

mom to Audrey (6.5 months), soon to be a Star band beauty!
