Guest guest
my son, joey will be 5 months on friday, he was diagnosed 1/12/09 with plagio, i have notice that is head is not getting better at all, he is on him non- flat spot like 95% of the day, he sleeps on his belly (i know its bad, but thats the ONLY way he will sleep)and dose a lot of tummy time, when my son was diagnosed the doctor said to try repoing and we will have him come back in a month, he has a appt agine on the 16th of feb, but last night i noticed his head is getting flater on his right side and his ears are more misaligned, one eye looks bigger then the other and his metopic suture( more of it stucks out more now). i dont know what to do, my husband got fired so we no longer have insurance and i am really stressing out cause i dont want my sons head to get worse, i am really starting to think that joeyis going to be banded but have no way of paying for it. my mother in law that is a nurse asked me today if i wanted to sign over custody to them so he will have insurance, what do u all think? oh and me and my hubby get custody back when we get insurance. oh i will put pics up later today thanks, kara mommy to joey 5 months, mybe needing a band! Guest guest
Hi, sorry to hear it is getting worse, and also that your husband has lost his job. If your husband is laid off can you get medicare/medicaid from the state (I forget which is for seniors vs families)? By " sign over " to your in-laws do you mean adoption? This sounds really dangerous since there is no way to guarantee that they would give you back custody - just too big a risk even if they seem like normal people. Also has your son been checked for craniosystosis? Since you mention the sutures, I wondered. Usually the head is misshapen, but the suture doesn't usually show with plagio - although there are many different shapes, so it could just be plagio. I know the economy isn't good but hope your husband gets a again job soon. > > my son, joey will be 5 months on friday, he was diagnosed 1/12/09 with > plagio, i have notice that is head is not getting better at all, he is > on him non- flat spot like 95% of the day, he sleeps on his belly (i > know its bad, but thats the ONLY way he will sleep)and dose a lot of > tummy time, when my son was diagnosed the doctor said to try repoing > and we will have him come back in a month, he has a appt agine on the > 16th of feb, but last night i noticed his head is getting flater on his > right side and his ears are more misaligned, one eye looks bigger then > the other and his metopic suture( more of it stucks out more now). i > dont know what to do, my husband got fired so we no longer have > insurance and i am really stressing out cause i dont want my sons head > to get worse, i am really starting to think that joeyis going to be > banded but have no way of paying for it. my mother in law that is a > nurse asked me today if i wanted to sign over custody to them so he > will have insurance, what do u all think? oh and me and my hubby get > custody back when we get insurance. oh i will put pics up later today > > thanks, kara > mommy to joey 5 months, mybe needing a band! >
Guest guest
I agree with a. I would definitely not want to sign over rights. Are your inlaws in the position to help pay for the band? I would check into your states medicade. Also maybe someone in the group can share some of their fundraising tips and if anyone found any organizations that will help pay for the band. Many places will do free evaluations. What area are you in? Maybe someone in the group can give you some recommendations. Angie Re: sons plagio is looking worse! Guest guest
Where are you located? Do you have a Cranial Tech near you? They will do a free evaluation to see if a band is needed and will also tell you the severity and do a photo study of his head. Also, before signing over custody make sure that your MIL ins. even covers a band. It is an exclusion for alot of policies so make sure that is even a possibly before going thru all of that! Guest guest
There are so many options available to you before losing custody of your child, I wouldn't even consider it. Most places that treat with a helmet have payment options. You could get a loan, ask your inlaws for help in paying for the helmet since they obviously want to help and so on. Most states have some sort of insurance and/or health care program for minors that's free. I would only lose custody as an absolute last resort, and honestly it shouldn't even be a consideration with the other options out there.
