My Dear List Members,

Pecanbread is a mutual support group. Parents and friends help each

other, share their experience, ask questions and post both problems

and suggestions.

This list is a mix of newcomers and a nucleus of experienced veterans

willing to remain and volunteer their time. A few serve as telephone

and private email counselors. They have been selected and approved by

the list owner and moderator because they are the most qualified to

give advice. That said, the advice may not always work, we do try our

best!

CAUTION is always the watchword. We are not like pantyhose. One size

does not fit all even if the style number is the same. And we are about

NEED, nor SPEED!

There are a few suggestions that get repeated often. Are you sick of

hearing our mantra?:

e.g.:

Start with the intro diet

Add foods slowly

Try going back to the intro if you are having problems

Keep a log of what is being eaten,

Check with your doctor if you are not sure about occurring symptoms or

behavior that is unusual

Avoid store bought foods that are not approved

Do yogurt gradually.... and so on

You know the drill!

We praise dairy that is virtually lactose free, especially yogurt but

WE DO NOT INSIST ON IT.

We have provided a table of STAGES arranged according to reported

digestibility of foods. It is a handy and helpful point of reference

and guidance even though it is not integral to the original version of

the diet and IS NOT MANDATORY. But it's there for you.

We have two comprehensive web sites to enhance the BTVC book that they

will soon exceed in size. They rate as among the best web sites I know

of.

We have provided lists of enzymes and supplements that are permitted

and also noted down those that are not SCD compliant, These additions

may have been suggested to you by your medical professional or you may

have done research that leads you to believe they will help. By all

means try them. SCD did not address these issues initially.

I am sure if Elaine were still with us she would explore this area

further and reiterate how needs for their use may diminish as healing

takes place.

We have many recipe resources to make the diet appetizing and varied

because it's a long haul and a change of lifestyle for entire families,

but a very positive change.

The group started with a handful of people and is now over two thousand

so we must have done something right! If we could eliminate that pesky

die-off we would be even more popular:-)

It has been a great source of satisfaction to get so many positive

reports, so much beautiful feedback from people who came here uncertain

and not confident, cleared the hurdles and have gone on to see longed

for results in their child or themselves.

Would that this were universal--you'd read headlines about it in all

the print media and have CNN blaring it out on TV twenty-four hours a

day.

And it's true what our critics say, We demand " fanatical adherence " for

best results

I have been involved in community activities, political campaigns, diet

organizations, book review groups, but nothing in my life has attained

the degree of satisfaction and meaning of contributing something to the

planet as has SCD and Pecanbread.

Nor have I met more dedicated volunteers than those I've had the

privilege of corresponding and cooperating with for the past six years.

Sometimes I feel closer to them than my own real live dear ones.

On the rare occasions when we don't see 100% eye to eye it stimulates

me to research, debate and move forward seeking constructive solutions

that will help our members in their journey to wellness. I have learned

a ton from Mimi, Jody, Patti, Sheila and now Charlene. (Thanks to

Summer I now make decent soup. Thanks to Marilyn I was inspired to

teach an SCD cooking course)

It thrills me to see posts from time to time from those who joined

earlier in the decade and check in with good news and yes, those who

gave up. had made mistakes or gone off on tangents and were back for

another try.

It just hasn't improved my ability to keyboard without making typos I

fail to correct :-(

Be careful, stay legal, read, re-read and review our resources and

guidelines, eat well, be happy!
