It's almost that time of year again... a new school year.

Let's help out all of the new people by sharing our best school ideas!!

Here's a few ideas from me to get us started:

1. Keep some muffins frozen at all times. This will provide a quick

cupcake for the unexpected class party.

2. If your child can tolerate peanut butter, make some of the peanut

butter caramels and keep them on hand to replace candy.

3. If you make your homemade fruit leathers on parchment paper, you

can slip it off the tray and use a pizza cutter to cut it long-ways.

Then you can roll it up with the parchment paper into fruit roll ups.

4. A cute set of small cookie cutters can go a long way to make the

same foods look more appealing. You can cut flatbread, very thin

hamburgers, gelatin and even pieces of veggies and fruit into fun,

kid-sized shapes. Not an exact replacement for Lunchables and the

like, but yet a fun idea that many kids will enjoy.

5. Get a stainless steel Thermos (or even more than one). This will

allow you to send foods like yogurt, knox blox, soup, etc. to school

for lunch or snack time.

6. Print out the SCD Autism Summary, which is linked on the Overcoming

Difficulties page of pecanbread.com. Print out one copy for each

adult that works with your child and ask them to read it in your

presence. It's only a couple of pages long, but it explains the

science behind the diet and provides a basic list of allowed and not

allowed foods. Having them read it in your presence will allow you to

ask them if they have any questions. Reinforce the notion that " just

a little " CAN hurt. Each individual needs to understand that your

child can only eat foods that you have approved of AHEAD OF TIME or

that you have provided.

Now, it's time for some of the rest of you to share what's made

combining school and a restricted diet easier.
