Guest guest
So many people seem to beg for legal hot dogs. I never want another hot dog. We found hot dogs with no grain, sugar or syrup. A n SCD friend here with UC swears by them. I am not 100% sure about the spices, but I have been SCD for six years and occasionally have a conventional ingredient, but very occasionally. The day after, because of the high sodium content I must have had eight glasses of water. The water retention showed up on the scale as a three pound gain, not fat but water. I felt bloated and had a headache. My ears hurt. A week after I tried it again to be sure of the cause and the same thing happened. I wouldn't wish this on anyone's child and will not be using hot dogs again. On top of it, I have now reacted to dairy, something I have tolerated all these years. Guest guest
Hi Carol, I am from Toronto also. We used to buy the veal wieners from Olliffe's butcher on Yonge Street but lately have been getting hot dogs from Fresh From the Farm(a mennonite store on Donlands Avenue). We haven't had any problems with either of them that I have noticed so far. If you don't mind my asking, are the hot dogs you are referring to from either of these stores. Now, my son hasn't had one in about a month now, and hasn't asked for them. But it's SO hard to be in this world and not be able to conveniently offer a child a hot dog of some kind at some point, whether it be gfcf or SCD legal or a full blown horrid dog with every added toxic ingredient under the sun. If there is a legal brand,I want to know ... it would just make our sometimes tough life a tiny bit easier. I'm also for variety in his diet and variety in the choices. If I do this, he is far more accepting of the diet overall, as was with the gfcf diet.

There are some varieties of Applegate Hot Dogs that people on this list use. We don't get them in Canada so I never tried them. I am having a flare at the moment and maybe in the very distant future can try them again, but with so may choices of foods on SCD cannot endorse that a child can't live without hot dogs. I certainly can but in this instance I'm the boss and have to do what's best which is not retaining all that water and bloat.:-) Carol F. Guest guest
Applegate Farms modified their recipes to eliminate ALL sugar and even honey from the recipes. My kids are thrilled! I have yet to see a variety of their hotdogs that contain any illegals in the ingredient list. I did not, however, try these until my son was completely symptom free so.... I would be cautious. Now that he's flaring, I'm seriously considering pulling them from his diet just so I KNOW that I know exactly what he's eating. Robbie Hot Dogs So many people seem to beg for legal hot dogs.
