Guest guest
Deb, Most insurance companies don't cover vitamin supplements. Though, years ago, my former insurance company agreed to cover the cost of 's water soluable A and E vitamins after I appealed their denial. Back then, these water soluble version (made by Aquasol) were only available by prescription, so I had 's doctor write a note pointing out two things: what these vitamins do and why water soluble versions are necessary for people with CF. After that, the company always paid. Last fall, I recommended the Solgar magnesium to a 52-yr old woman in Kentucky. She doesn't have CF but has severe osteopororis. After she showed her pain management and orthopedic doctors the info I sent, the pain doc wrote her a prescription for 600 mg. Solgar magnesium glycinate. She submitted it to her insurance company so all she pays is $1 per bottle (wish I had her ins.) All companies are different and it never, ever hurts to appeal claims so read your policy then send an appeal. Can't hurt, may help is my motto! Even if insurance doesn't pay for these things, as long as you get your doctor to write a prescription, and keep a letter on file stating why these supplements are medically necessary, you should be able to include it when you itemize your medical deductions at tax time. But check with your accountant. The advantage of getting the Solgar magnesium from Bev's pharmacy is that if you order other meds from them anyway, then there's no shipping cost as long as your total order is over $45-50 (can't remember the amount). HON charges minimum $5.50 shipping per order, I think, and I don't think they ship internationally, but Bev's pharmacy does. Kim --- gdattig5@a... wrote: THIS IS GREAT KIM!!! Guest guest
Do you offer nebulizers by the case? Do you need a prescription for magnesium or GSH? Thanks, Gale > THIS IS GREAT KIM!!! Guest guest
Ah, see Bev. You're a cheap date. And Gale, no, you don't need a prescription for magnesium. But if you can get a doctor to write one for you, then hey, maybe you can get your insurance to pay if you can prove it's necessary (and it should be easy to prove since most CF meds and the malabsorption component add to depleted magnesium!) By the way , if they have a friend or relative visiting, we will be happy to ship to the family/friend, for them to take home to them.......That saves them many costs as well.
