" You would need to be the one to keep the water and filters clean as

the fish bacteria/disease that they call ick is actually a form of

psuedo.. "

Dawn,

What do you mean? We've had one for years what is this? Of course my

kids do not play with the water but they do help with the cleaning.

I was wrong...it wasn't Ick, it was fin rot that is attributed to psuedomonas.

Symptoms are the " fins looking like they are being eaten away, with a redness at

the base of the bad area. " You can buy antibiotics to cure this. The fish I've

had with longer/more fluttery fins seemed to be more prone to this. And I kept

a really clean tank.

Basically we were told that you need to wear rubber gloves when messing in the

tank as any cut or scratch that you have can get infected with some of the fish

diseases. I made the decision to be the one to clean the tank, and to have a

hard cover over it's top so that Patti wasn't tempted to paddle around in the

water.

I don't think there's anything wrong with having fish as long as you maintain a

good tank. The only reason we don't have fish right now is that our last batch

ate each other and then the fish who did all of the eating died. I'm assuming

of horrible digestive complications. ;-) I didn't replace them as I'm terribly

busy at the moment trying to get my older three homeschooled. They aren't

lacking in pets though as we still have the two dogs and a cat.

Dawn,

Thank you. Very interesting and funny! I think it is a good idea to

wear gloves after all that water has been sitting there for a while.

We did have a fish that was a bully but it died. Now we have some

fishes I do not know the name of these fishes but they are very

hardy. We've had them for over 2 years. One time we had a Japanese

fighting fish, Beta?, and Venanzio my 7 year old, it was his birthday

party, 2 year old birthday party and he got the Beta out of the tank

and threw it in the beverage cooler!!! I ran after him but it was too

late, the poor fishy was frozen!!! It was quick, too.

My Venanzio is a handful.

Love to you,

That was so cute! Bet Venanzio is a cutie!

My nephew Zachary came over during an aquarium clean up. I had the fish in

zip lock bags. He took the biggest fist and unzipped the bag! The water

flowed out. The fish landed on the newly exterminated floors. Bye-bye fish!

LOL

Poor fish! My nephew was devastated! He could not believe he killed the

poor big fish! That was trauma for a 3 year old!
