We had a a dear friend lose their son at 6 months to SIDS and ever since then I began to search for something to help me sleep while my babies slept. I was used to getting up 5-7 times a night just to make sure they were still breathing. We then found a monitor called the Angelcare monitor http://www.angelcare-monitor.com/products

This was the peace of mind I was looking for. There is a sensory pad that detects breath movement (it is really sensitive and actually goes underneath the mattress.). If no movement is detected for 20 seconds an alarm sounds. I have used it with all of my children (It is well worth the money) and have never had a false alarm. We even had a situation with our youngest son at 9 weeks where he did in fact stop breathing during the night (the doctors said because their brains are immature they can "forget" to breath), the alarm alerted us and we were able to rouse him awake. I am convinced (our doctor is too), that he would not be with us if not for that monitor. Plus, when they outgrow the monitoring stage, it acts as just a regular sound monitor.

Hope this is helpful!

I am still scared to use any sleep device. I was one of those who was scared of SIDS and got the firmest mattress, and had nothing else in the crib ( still don't at 9 months ). I can't let my babies sleep on their tummies until they turn that way themselves. I am just too scared of SIDS. :( > >> > Has anyone found something they use to help, I'd like to prevent from day one this time. My new daughter will be in a home daycare and the provider is commited to helping too, as we all saw my first Daughter strugle for so many months!> > > > Thanks in Advance!> >>
