Guest guest
Gus is almost 10. Very bright, very ADHD- (hyper/compulsive) and previously stinky, but no diarrhea problems ever. So, Gus and I played with SCD (i.e., not 100% just learning) during the late spring and early, early summer. He ate a lot of goat yogurt, but otherwise, on the advice of his new doctor before we even got a chance to read BTVC, he went non-dairy. He began enzymes, probiotics, and cod liver oil. We saw immediate improvements. He doesn't pass gas near as frequently and his poop doesn't smell like something died years ago. He thinks better. During the spring, he seemed calmer. Relatives who aren't around him on a day-to-day basis commented on his calmness. He can complete tasks around the house that he couldn't before, or at least in lightening speed compared to before. As I noted before, he sat through a 2-hour long Bat Mitzvah ceremony on day 8---something we never would have attempted with ADHD meds a couple of months ago. He is a lot more tolerable to be around. During that time, we gave up 17 years of vegetarianism. Since June 5, he has only been on ADHD meds 1 day (June 19) and we regretted it. The whole family went SCD 17 days ago. So we've seen a lot of good things. But we are also seeing a reappearance of behaviors that we haven't seen since he began ADHD meds 3 years ago. He cannot control volume. He is stammering (thinks too fast but can't get it out as fast). He is hyper. He has trouble going to sleep at night. We seem to have lost a deal of the calmness that we had gained. I'm wondering what the missing link is. Any thoughts? Additionally, he has not started back yogurt. I'm going to do it slowly and properly, starting this weekend. Yogurt made an appearance in cheesecake during the intro and some muffins yesterday. As mentioned in previous message, he's also losing weight. Not much-- three pounds. But no matter how much I feed him, he doesn't gain. So I'm not asking a specific question. Just wanting impressions from anyone who wants to offer them. Yes, this way is preferable.
