Are there any scientific reports/article that my friend could use to give to her

doctor? Are there any nurses on this list who could vouch for the safety of the

diet? My friend is struggling with nay sayers and at this point she can't get

the digest to work. I will send info to her. Thanks for your help

OOPS.... I mis-typed. Here is the corrected link:

Go to http://www.scdiet.org/6research/default.html

Sorry about that.... I flipped the i and the e in " diet " . It should work now.

Re: scientific data

This link does not seem to be working. Is it my computer that is at

fault? I will send some articles that I collected from my new

mailbox.

I don't know of any scientifice articles, but here are a few things I

do know. First, I ran the diet by the dietitian at the hospital where

I work and she seems to think that if a variety of foods are consumed

(in the long run) the short time of restriction should not be

detrimental.

Second, the nutrition book I used during nursing school advises to be

wary of diets that eliminate groups of food or states that certain

foods are " forbidden " . Seems logical enough. However those that are

lactose or gluten intolerant eliminate these food with the approval

and encouragement of mainstream medicine.

SCD (this is of course simplified for these purposes) excludes grains

and dairy, except the yogurt. I have done a bit of research and have

listed here SCD legal (I think) alternatives.

Dairy:

Calcium - SCD yogurt, green leafy vegetables, small fish with bones,

legumes

Phosphorus - meat, poultry, eggs

Sulfur - meat, poultry, eggs, fish, legumes, nuts

Potassium - Fruits and vegetable (more than just bananas), legumes,

meats

Riboflavin - eggs, meat, green leafy vegetables

Vitamin B12 - meat, fish, poultry, shellfish, eggs

Retinol - liver, butter, egg yolk

Vitamin D - sunlight, liver, fatty fish, egg yolks (be sure to get

adequate amounts - usually comes from fortified foods)

Vitamin K - Green leafy vegetables, liver, cabbage family vegies

Grains:

Fiber - fruits and vegies

Thiamin - liver, legumes, nuts

Niacin - all protein foods

Vitamin B6 - meats, fish, poultry, legumes, friut, green leafy vegies,

nuts

Folate - leafy vegies, legumes, seeds, liver, some fruits

Pantothenic Acid - meat, poultry, fish, legumes

Biotin - eggs, liver

Magnesium - green leafy vegies, legumes, seafood

Selenium - seafood, liver, kidney, and other meats

vitamin E - vegetable oils, nuts, seeds

Potassium - Fruits and vegetables , legumes, meats

Phosphorus - meat, poultry, eggs

Iron - beef liver, red meats, clams, legumes, vegetables, nuts

Sorry this is so long, but I hope it helps. And remember variety is

not only the spice of life, but the sustainer of life. :)
