So Glad to hear testimonies from those of you on the other side. My insurance

denied! I will let nothing stop me. I will pay cash. I sent my packet in this

morning, I hope Dr. R. Gets it tomorrow. I am ready to get this over with. I

am so obsessed with fear of Post-op Pain. Its that first 24 hours that scares

me to death. Any incouragement from anyone would help. This is a boy who

holds his finger in a cup of ice water all night while sleeping for a little

toaster burn. you can imagine my fear. HELP!!!

Hi everyone,

Just wanted to post that I am feeling GREAT and ready to go back to

work tomorrow! Once I corrected my Carafate dosing screw-up, I felt

soooo much better! I've lost 15 pounds so far and am thrilled!

Clothes are fitting that haven't fit in years! As for food, I've

tried mashed potatoes, oatmeal, crackers, and soups and everything is

going down PERFECTLY! No pain, no nausea, no vomiting, and no

dumping!

To all the MGBers for this week, I have you all in my prayers. To

Blair, my " almost " littermate, I'll be thinking of you as you cross

over tomorrow.

Thank you Dr. R for this wonderful surgery!

Sincerely,

Bernardine

Congratulations Bernardine! I am proud of you. You stuck it out with

just liquids for the two weeks. I hope I am able to do the same. Keep

us posted with your progress and enjoy your return to work.

Hey Bob, I'm right there with you. I hate Pain, but I'm believing

these girls when they tell me there is none. I'm so ready for this

surgery though. It's kinda like having a baby. I wanted the baby but

no labor. Gotta tell ya Bob...It don't happen that way!

Hope you get approval soon. I'm going on Aug 16th maybe you can too.

Have you tried to appeal the insurance denial? Give it at least 1 or

2 appeals - wear them down! Dr. R has some good letters on his

website for fighting the insurance.

As far as pain, it has been nonexistent! I'm not kidding. My first

24 hours, I was totally and completely zonked out! The effects of

the anesthesia and the pain pump (Demerol) had me so out of it, I

didn't notice any pain. When the Nurses came in at 10PM (after a

11:00 AM surgery) to wake me up to use the bathroom, I did feel the

gas pain in my shoulder and it did hurt. It felt more like a muscle

spasm than anything. Believe me, it was quite tolerable, especially

with the pain pump. My belly has never, ever hurt even in the early

hours after surgery - I can't explain it. I think Dr. R uses

marcaine (anesthetic) to help with any incision pain (I might be

wrong here).

Whatever you do, don't let the fear of pain be an obstacle.

The best to you in getting to the other side. Keep reading the posts

and you'll see that lack of significant pain is the norm.

Sincerely,

Bern

Thanks Dinah,

Your day is coming soon - yippee! You'll be able to stick to the

liquids - just remember to drink enough! Believe it or not, that was

the toughest part of the recovery for me. Not to mention, I over-

dosed myself on Carafate for the 1st 13 days!

You'll do great! Please keep us all posted when you're headed to

Durham.

Sincerely,

Bern

when you wake up, they will have the pump attached to your chest, just hit

it a few times and you won't feel anything. I am VERY sensitive to pain and

only needed it for 24 hours and took no pain meds when I got home.

Re: 15 Days Post Op - Feeling Great!

Bob, you will be FINE!! The pain is really not bad.. I slept the whole

first

day and night. By the time I was really wide awake, I was feeling really

good! And now, at 8 days post op, I feel like nothing was done to me at

all.

My biggest problem is that I have a rash. Apparently, I am allergic to one

of the meds. I think it is the Carafate, even though Dr. R. and my PCP both

say that's unlikely... I quit taking it today, and the rash seems to be

clearing up.. I guess I'll know for sure in a couple of days. The pain of

being really heavy is far more of a problem than the post op pain. Don't

worry, just concentrate on how good you will feel afterward!

Hey guys quit worrying!!! I promise there is little or no pain! Actually

it's no pain, maybe a little discomfort but it is not pain!! Or what I call

pain, like cutting a finger, smashing a toe, falling off your bicycle(where

did that come from???) anyway you have a pain pump from the moment you wake

up, and they put it in your hand to be sure you know where it is, then just

pump away, that's what I did! I didn't give myself a chance to hurt, when I

woke up and realize I was awake pump, pump, pump! Maybe the nurses thought I

was a wimp, but hey NO PAIN HERE!!!!! LOL

Quit worrying!!!
