Guest guest
Great info... and I do understand how tedious compiling studies would (will?) be. And a few comments of my own experience to add before I jump back into " taking care of business " around here (ha ha ha)... GFCF has merit to a certain extent... SCD and constipation, yes, a big issue, but we ended up modifying Joe's diet to add more natural fiber in yogurt, fruits, and pureed veggies... and yes, we added an enzyme supplement after a bit, used when flare ups came about... but as far as probiotics, honestly the yogurt is plenty. I'm a big believer in modifying diet before adding supplements, thus I've pureed more fruits and veggies into a " smoothie " of sorts much more readily than buy supplements (ok, I'm a penny pincher). Once we modified the diet to Joe's needs... and waited... and continued epsom salt baths... and increased yogurt over time... NOW, we have mostly regular stools... oh, and an enema or two along the way. Yes, the dark circles under Joe's eyes, the rash (fairly mild), odd stools (or constipation) correspond w/ die off phases and it's very hard to continue steadfast to SCD when the regression during these times occurs. However, once the phase is over, Joe is more responsive and interactive... and more verbal (patient instead of tantruming). He has ONLY had diarrhea during the flu or seasonal viral bugs... so with our die-off we don't have diarrhea as a symptom. Anyway, we've found that, over time, and hopefully indefinitely, Joe will heal to the point of returning to enjoying a " regular " diet, but when I say regular diet... our original diet around here is fairly natural, emphasizing fruits, veggies, meats, cheeses and nuts anyway, with grains sparingly, they are not a keystone of our diet. Ironically, I can pinpoint Joe's downward illness to our lack of dietary awareness, and a back to back flu (cruise-virus from Norfolk, antibiotics, and then a less " natural " diet with focusing on my daughter having uncontrolled seizures at that time, oh, and college, and a new baby, etc). I cannot blame the vaccination because as his mother, I should have been more careful about having a shot given during a timeframe in which he had a weakened immune system already.... a factor, yes, the blame, no... It's a snowball effect with Joe... this was a series of events leading up to digestive illness and regressive autism... I hope our snowball is melting away in the peaceful, more relaxed, warm atmosphere and overall sunshine now... The regressions during die off phases truly suck though... . -Carol / Froggypeach... no more rambling and procrastination when I need to catch up today ... > > Karyn Seroussi made a study comparing SCD to GFCF a few years ago. > The control group had children doing GFCF and the experimental group > was doing SCD.
