Guest guest
Hi Bette, Welcome to the group! I am glad that you learned how to post; you did better than I did. My first post was one of those that just kept going off the page, until I learned to word-wrap. Now I just post online because I have a cable connection that is always on. I know your letter will be fine, or I'm sure there will be some repetition in your letter because there is repetition in the manual. I think the letter is one of the hardest parts of the packet, but your almost there. You are not alone in your addiction, I think and hope it is a preop thing, if not I am going to have to buy my husband his own computer. Guest guest
Hi Betty, I agree with you....I am addicted to these posts as well...I dont post much either but do put my two cents in once in a while...I feel I know everyone too and am glad there are others out there who feel and know exactly what I am going through and what I went through....I had my MGB on July 20th so tomorrow will be my one month anniversery....Ive lost as of today...28 and 1/4 pounds.....kewl huh? I feel more energic and my family says Im glowing again....my mom was crying when I told her how much weight I lost so far cuz she knows what a struggle Ive had trying over the years and this is the most Ive lost in about 15 yrs....Thanks to Dr. R and his magic scapel.....I know you will just love him...he is the most caring and compassionate man I know....and the best Doctor...I am a nurse and I have and do work with lots of Doctors..and there are few with his kind of " bedside " manner...he treats you like a human, and listens to what you have to say....I met him and in only 5 minutes felt like I knew him forever. I was totally confident in his ability and trusted and still trust his judgement. His becomeing strict is most likely more for his patients saftey then his own reason.. He thinks alot of his patients and how to give them the best care possible...Good luck and ifyou want to privately email me for your contacts that is fine with me....carebear3_12155@.... Guest guest
Dr R.. This is very difficult for a lot of us, but does not mean that we are not deserving of surgery. I don't understand why it is so strict all of the sudden. I feel like we are the most educated patients out there due to your requirements and I certainly understand why you do it..you want us to fully understand this life long change that is about to happen...but 1 page per topic (and like the other gal mentioned..you do end up repeating yourself) seems like ALOT! I don't think I have ever written an 11 page paper on anything...but I will try my best. I just feel like a kid in school but the punishment for not writing a good paper will be denial instead of an F. Maybe a one on one visit should be required instead of the letter or in addition to a shorter letter. That way you could evaluate someone in person. I know your time is extremely limited at this point already though. You mentioned a test....is that going to be in addition to the letter too?? Or maybe in place of? (hopefully..lol) Please don't turn me down because I am in somewhat disagreement with the requirement of such a long letter..I am just trying to show you the other side of the coin. I know after reading this long letter you are probably wondering why I would even worry about writing 11 pages..would seem easy for a blabber mouth like me huh? LOL! Hope to see you soon...but with probably 5 lbs I added on eating a chocolate cake in frustration of the patient letter!! just kidding...! Guest guest
Please don't get so strict that the MGB will be unattainable for some of us. We have so many obstacles to overcome already please don't make it even more difficult. Judge us on our spirit, determination and yes comprehension, but not strictly on our ability to sit down and write a dozen or so pages. Thank you. Just a MGB wanna-be! Guest guest
--- Grant you are doing the right thing by asking, may I suggest the writings should be close to the average standard 10-12 font, and reg. margins. Dr R wears glasses but I m sure he would appreciate being able to see and read the print. Basically he wants to make sure that you know the mgb procedure inside and out............... and educated consumer is our best patient.(or something like that). I understand he wants the topics to be a page each, so do exactly what HE WANTS........ Good Luck and if you have any questions contact me... Guest guest
Robin, It depends on whatever Dr. Rutledge decides when he is doing the surgery. He was asked in clinic and he said he never has an idea until he goes in and then does it. With Love, Lara M. Because I was at the low end, he bypassed six feet. Those at the higher end get the full eight feet. In my daughter Chris' case, (she was on the lower end) he factored in her age and heredity, deciding to take more than the six feet. It is all very individual, based on what is in the best interest of each patient.
