Guest guest
My son was I daycare for 4 months with a helmet. The ortho have me a paper to explain stuff. But, its really not a problem, by the time your son goes to daycare he will be in the helmet full time. There really isn't anything special the daycare needs to do. You can show them how to take it off if there is ever an issue like a fever. Other than that, that's a bout it. It is a home-based daycare. I was wondering what should I be prepared for? How best to explain what to do and what to avoid with the baby in the helmet. would appreciate your feedback. thanks. Guest guest
My daughter started at a home daycare 2 weeks BEFORE she got her helmet. That 2 weeks was rough because I wasn't sure if the provider was taking the repositioning as seriously as I was (and I'm fairly confident she wasn't)... so I was glad to finally get the helmet because the repositioning isn't AS critical then. There is only so much you can do when your child is cared for by someone else, and in my case it seemed my daycare provider wasn't taking ANYTHING as seriously as I was... so I gave her photocopies of the sheet that explains how to care for the helmet, neck excercises, etc. I figured it would be better received advise coming from the ortho than from me. Needless to say, she is starting a new daycare next week!! But regardless, my advise would be to give them as much information as you can. If you get resistance, give it in writing so they see the importance! ---- ZK <mezhyldyz@...> wrote: > We would be starting daycare on April 1st and my son would be in his helmet for 3 weeks by then. Guest guest
I would think a home based daycare would be very much into helping the parents but it may not be as well regimented as a for profit chain. I know that at KinderCare for example everything has to be in writing and most likely from a doctor even dietary restrictions. You have to sign waivers for everything. My son doesn't go to daycare right now but my toddler does. They should be willing to work with you! From: ZK Date: Thu, 19 Mar 2009 11:53:23 -0700 (PDT)<Plagiocephaly >Subject: starting daycare with a helmet We would be starting daycare on April 1st and my son would be in his helmet for 3 weeks by then. Guest guest
I think you are going to have a much easier time with an in-home than a center environment. We showed all our sitters (mostly family) how to take it on and off and what the ground rules are. Some have been great in helping us, even to the point of doing her at home exercises. Others just don't want to deal with it so they don't. It isn't a big deal as all they have to do is let her wear it~ Elaine (twin A) 9 1/2 mos, plagio & tort, 2nd helmet since 1/5/09 On Thu, Mar 19, 2009 at 8:22 PM, <feder566@...> wrote: My daughter started at a home daycare 2 weeks BEFORE she got her helmet. Guest guest
I agree that it's not a big deal. We are in a daycare center. They did require that we get an order from the doctor that says she needs to wear it. We were given an extra instruction sheet by our ortho and the daycare center nurse came over on the first day to make sure that the caregivers knew how to take it off and put it on. The first week, we told them the times to put in on and off. Since then, they just leave it on all of the time...no biggie. , mom to , 18 months 3 weeks 17.5 weeks in STARband plus CST maryland starting daycare with a helmetWe would be starting daycare on April 1st and my son would be in his helmet for 3 weeks by then.
