Guest guest
I had United Health Care and before I call Dr. R's office to set up an appointment I called them (UHC) myself to see if they covered Weight Loss Surgery.....they did. Don't know if this is what your looking for but hope it helps....Good Luck! Gail in Chapel Hill, NC MGB...5/29/00 down 60 pounds
Guest guest
Hey, ! The first time I went to talk to my PCP I was really nervous and told him I had read about Carnie and wondered what he thought about WLS in general. He was soooo supportive and said he'd referred 4 other patients for the local open RNY. I wanted to cry because I felt like the door had been opened a tiny little crack and just knowing that my insurance had paid for the open RNY gave me hope! Over the past two months my wonderful doc has shown what sterling stuff he's made of... Last week he told me I had " done my homework " and " shown my intelligence " in choosing the MGB!!! I had to bite my lip so I wouldn't wail because it has been so many years since I had gotten a compliment especially two in one conversation! Over the ten years I have gone to him I have never asked him about Weight Loss and he had never said a word to me either. I am going to send him flowers as soon as I get word on insurance approval. I am already 99.9% sure it will be approved at this point. You know the honest truth is that we morbidly obese folks deserve support just as much as someone who has other medical needs. My uncle had emphysema and then lung cancer. Do you think his PCP or insurance co. said sorry...if you hadn't smoked and let yourself go you wouldn't be in this shape now! No, They treated him with dignity and respect and did everything they could to save his life!!! You deserve the same treatment and if your PCP won't help you then find another one, asap! Good Luck~You will be in my prayers! Tami I'm getting confused yeah, yeah, I know it's hard to believe but confusion has set in. I have been reading everything like I'm supposed to but I do have a question. Who starts the approval process with the insurance company? My PCP? Dr. R? Do I make a call? I have United Health Care Select POS (which I think is the one Amy Poe said she had). I'm going to see my PCP tomorrow and I'm scared because I think he's going to get p*ssed. I won't let that stop me even if I have to find another doc, but I'm dreading the YOU WANT TO DO WHAT? that I envision coming out of his mouth. So, if the ball's in my court, where to I hit it?
