I just went through about the same thing.. Deciding to go froward with my sons second helmet was a big decision and no one not even my hubby supported me. I decided as well as his OT that we will go with the second helmet considering he just turned 6 months old,if we dont see a positive change with in 3 I will stop with helmet process. To me i feel i made the right decision considering he has been in a helmet since he was 4 months old and he cant sit at all on his own. I just have a feeling continuing will not only help his head shape but i worry about regression also, he hates tummy time. I feel that you need to look at your whole situation and decide what is best for your baby and not everyone else. Just keep the baby in mind since it is them your talking about. Anyways good luck with whatever decision you make.

I took my sons band off last week because I thought it was causing opposite asymmetry. Should I admit this at our appt this week? We are seeing the plastic surgeon and the ortho for a scan. The thing is that I want them to adress the brachy specifically but now I think I might get resistance if I say I took it off. He wore it for 6 weeks and got amazing plagio results but it was causing the plagio side to surpass the other side and the helmet was super tight causing more irritation than necessary. Then I took it off last week. I keep oscillating between giving up for the plagio and living with the 92% cephalic index OR driving over two hours to CT to crainial technology for a DOC band.I have to make the decision this week and now I'm getting antsy. He is 7.5 months old so the window is shrinking. He does not yet sleep on his tummy. If he did it would make my decision easier. I also can't make the family members who are the

babysitters keep it on him any more because they all resisted me to begin with. Any suggestions about continuing? Grrr...

I fly out of state for a doc band. As much as I don't want to do a second band I might. I don't want to just settle if there is room for improvement! Taking the band of one week isn't too bad. My son had a bad spider bite on his head and our ortho had is leave it off for a week tilll it was gone. Good luck in the choice! Ana-,

I don't know how to advise you on this one but I'll say this: It's always better to express your concerns and say the truth. The only thing I can think of is that they might stop treating your child because you didn't comply with him wearing the band 23h/day like he is supposed to.

See what the scan says and see if they'll listen to your about treating his brachy as well. If you still don't feel like they are addressing your concerns, go for a free evaluation at CT. 2 hours is far, but not too far.

Now the family members who are not keeping it on him should be the first to support you with whatever you think is best for you son. Should you maybe be looking for an alternate form of daycare? at least for a few months?

That's a tough one. Good luck.

I guess I would have taken the two hour drive, if the helmet is that tight, a new one may be needed if adjustments can't be done. I live in ND, and when we first started doctoring for Chloe's plagio, it was a two hour trip one way, and that was two times a week, after that it did go down to once a week and we are now at once a month. However, if my daughter gets red spots, or needs an adjustment, I am on the road. Don't let other people push you into taking the helmet off. Be firm and tell you family members that it has to stay on. Your son is lucky he went into his helmet at a younger age, my daughter didn't get into hers until she was eight months cause we had to wait on referrals. Kids are resilient, get him in for a recheck and keep pushing the helmet.
