Hello, my son Jack is on his 15th week with his Hanger helmet. Last

appt we saw no correction after 3 weeks, but asymetry is great and he

is at 6mm. We were hoping for 5mm but as you know 6mm is good too.

Anyhow, my husband and orthotist suggested another 3 weeks - I agreed,

but now I am having second thoughts. Jack looks great, compared to 4

months ago, 16mm and now 6mm, but they have me feeling like we should

shoot for perfection. Anyhow, it is July and hot and I am done, I

know both my husband and orthotist would support my change of heart

but I dont want anything to come back and haunt me. any experienced

parent battling and have battled this?

i think your son has made sooo much progress.. and if your doctor

suggested that it was up to you, than do what you want, you have come

sooo far.. i plan on keeping his helmet on at night when he is

sleeping.. thats when we think he has changed enough! but its up to you

and wen ever your ready... i know its hard to know what the right thing

to do is but i know you will make the right one, you are mommy, plus

its soo dam hot out, dont make him suffer if you dont have too!! good

If you can cool him,then go on.If not,then graduate.Baby can't adjust

himself to the hot weather as well as adults.A too hot helmet will

cause many problems in summer. My daught has heat rash at first, then

other skin problems follow up.I only put on the helmet at night when

she is sleep and grows fast,of course, turn on the aircondition.Good

luck.

We too went through this same difficult decision... Both boys had great

correction (plagio corrected from 10 mm to 5mm assymetric and Brachy

corrected from 4mm wider than long to 5 mm longer than wide) however,

both boys still had very high cephallic indexes based on head size...

We all agreed they looked so much better, but I battled whether or not

to reband to achieve even just a few more mm correction if possible...

Ultimately we decided to graduate them, and neither have perfect heads,

but they aren't obviously abnormal... only when you know what you are

looking for can you see the flatness or assymetry... now that their

hair is growing in more, it is less and less noticeable...i still think

about it sometimes whether or not we should have proceeded, but at the

same time I am happy with the correction that was made... only time

will tell if they have any issues fitting into sports helmets or not

being able to wear a short hair cut... I pray that these things are not

in their future and I sympathize with the inner struggle you are

having... As their mother you have to weigh all options and feel good

about the decision you make...hopefully this helps

Thanks Shenelle, yes our son looks great, we are so happy we went through with this...but to achieve perfection (if that exists) seems a little much. He is able to wear sunglasses and a ball cap, which wasnt possible prior to banding. His hair is coming in and you can't notice, but as you mentioned I dont want him to grow up and have issues with his one side (still a little flat). I have had the helmet off since Mon. he is so much more happy, it is hot and he is loving it off...and being in the pool a lot more. My husband is fine with this, but I am going to go see the Orthotist after the holiday to consult. I guess I will then make the final decision. Oh, FYI, he is about to out grow his band...so that would mean another band to go another 3 weeks

:(
